Recently bought a house in Whiterun (Breezehome), still have the key and have even had a couple of improvements done. But when I go there to sleep, it says "bed owned" so I can't sleep there? Is it a glitch in the game? Or have I done something during the game which has dis-allowed me to use the place?? All I want to do is sleep, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired....

Are you using the bed that is in the room to the left when you go up the stairs?
that is owned because it is Lydia's (the housecarl) bed.
the Playerborns bed is in the other room up the stairs.

Oh Lydia, my poor Lydia. She died last night, at the gates of the Thalmor Embassy. (A miss-placed Fire breath shout at a bad time?? I can neither confirm nor deny...)

Weird... I found Lydia dead at cloud ruler temple. She was wearing a heap of ebony armor I had made for her and enchanted. She grew tired of waiting for me apparently and that's where I found her. Very strange circumstances on that one.

I think Lydia pretty much dies if you so much as sneeze on her, useless in my opinion. No room for such wimps in Skyrim I feel!

Just sleep in the bed where Lydia is sat in the same room as and is morbidly staring at Sir.

Are you on PC? If so then you can set ownership for the house and bed. What an unusual glitch.

Yup, cloud ruler temple alright.

Weird as my PS3 version has been issue free.
