Wiki says they start showing up at level 9. I am level 10 and I found a elven dagger but cant find a elven shortsword and I really want one (they are too cool looking to pass up on).

Anybody know for sure where I can go to get one without having to steal or cold-blooded murder any npc?

For 100% sure, no. But just check any smith. Some is bound to have one for you. Slash n′Smash perhaps or I know I′ve seen one at Fjotreid′s in Bruma... :dry:

When you see that "starts to appear" bit, it generally means in boss chests or similar that are giving the exceptional stuff. Faded Wraiths as bosses start at level 12 and may carry them.

My lvl 11-12 has found a couple of enchanted ones in caves. One was fire enchanted and the other was shock enchanted and she really likes them. Just go to a couple of caves and they should start showing up.

The classic Rockmilk Cave would be a good place to start.

Unfortunately, Rockmilk isn't so great for shortswords, since none of the enemies there typically use them. It's all bows, blunts, daggers, longswords and claymores. You might get one from the loot chest inside the tent, though

You'll have to loot one prior to level 13. Try Vampires. They come in all different classes, and some equip shortswords. As stated, Faded Wraiths sometimes carry one. They start appearing as Undead dungeon bosses at 12, and as standard enemies at 14 (of course by that time, you could just purchase one).

I found one on the Grey Fox. I was level 10. I picked it right out of his pocket (this was at the meeting just before the last mission for him).

Conjurers might carry them Conjurers have Blade as a major (necromancers have blunt) and like to carry small blade weapons. Usually daggers but you might find an elven shortsword too.

Also Vampires are a good place to look.

And I agree the Elven Shortsword looks really nice.

shady sam will have one at level 9-10.

plus murdering him doesnt count as a kill for DB if your RP'ing a good guy.
