View distance

Post » Wed Mar 05, 2014 4:00 am

Just posting this to see if I can gather some more support, I would like to see them make an even higher view distance available to people with high end computers. The graphics of the game are great but the ability to see further would really be the icing on the cake.

What is your FPS at maxed settings? Still 60?

Mine dropped to ~40-45, but I think it was more from the high water/shadow settings than view distance... but the water looks to beautiful, can't lower it! :bonk:

You can see really far as it is, do you want to be able to view all of Cyrodiil or what?

True. The graphics looks amazing but the game needs more view distance.

They've done this clever thing (well not really clever, as it's been done countless times before) where things don't just stop when the view distance is reached, they gradually fade out into the distance. You can see things extremely far away, but they seem blurred or desaturated; hidden behind mist. I like it.

Saying that, I'm all for more ways to test my beast machine, so why not.

If they do that it might increase loading for others cause its not just about you being able to see its about what is being sent to you. if you can see farther then more strain on the servers if they can do it with out affecting others im all for it other wise it has to be limited.

All good points, I'm just a bit worried about the view distance in wide open areas ( ala skyrim, once its implemented, the plains of white run etc. Will we be able to see the mountains in the distance?)

Dont mix up view distance of enviroment to draw distance of players/npcs.

Enviroment demands more from your graphics card.
Players/npc demand client and server performance. And lot of bandwith.

It is always misty in Cyrodiil even when the sun is out. My PC can run Skyrim and Crysis 3 on full settings at 1920x 1080 at 60FPS (capped due to my monitor).

I would like to see a high definition texture pack for the game and an ability to increase view distance or to turn off that damned mist.

That and the limit is kind of a mediator to equalize the balance between people with mid and high end systems.

This may be a stupid question, and I apologize if it is, but you did slide the view distance slider to 100? I only ask because my defauted to 60 and I had to improve it.

I thought it was sufficient, however, nothing wrong with giving people more options if their system can handle it.

Fog tends to obscure view distance quite a bit.

Which is probably by design. Terrain LOD degrades quite fast and starts to look like simple, tiled textures.

Yeah, I would like the option to increase the "clarity" of structures/landscape by at least a factor of 2 or even 3. Seeing a structure that's 100 meters away look foggy is silly.

I'd rather they take advantage of the short view distance by increasing the level of detail on the maps. Probably late for that, but since we're wishing for things.

Agreed. I'd like to see more environmental draw distance though. Cyrodiil doesn't really feel like Cyrodiil with it's current draw distance at the moment.
