Bethesda disappoints

Post » Wed Mar 05, 2014 9:31 am

xbox live is like .25 $ / day are you really going to go there?

XBOX LIVE never had any problems, with the service not one you get what you pay for.

Now back directly to the original topic

MMO and RPG/offline are two different things

RPG offline you pay for the game you go home play it no obligatory additional fees are paid again ever.

MMO you have to pay the people maintaining the servers and developing new content SOMEHOW

Uhm OP saying Sorry Bethesda I think you're just trying to fatten your pockets, really ?

I dont think they made this game because we are so special ;)

Try the so called F2P myth of Neverwinter...the initial download is free, but then it starts, its b*ll[censored] it can cost way more in the long run..

Anyway F2P is a MYTH there is no such thing, and even though console games are usually Buy to play, most decent MMO's are not.... thank god..

And I did play my fair share of mmos, in the "old days" we never had this sub-fee whining ever.. oh the good old days.

You're assuming that a potential TESO player would already have an xbox live sub for one thing, or that they would just throw down a yearly sub to it to play this game, which they may only end up paying for a month. (even for your "free" month on TESO you would still need xbox live sub)

I was being factual about the cost because everyone jumped all over the $30 thing. It could potentially cost an xbox live player that much, regardless of what packages are available.

Not sure what your point is... :P

What I was getting at is that regardless of if it's Bethesda publishing this game, it has a direct effect on the future elderscrolls series, be it good or bad.

No, no it doesn't.

If this game fails horribly and goes down as the worst game in history, the single player games will continue to put out.

I dunno, Guild Wars 2 is pushing out content constantly, like every 2-3 weeks and they never had a sub fee. They've always argued that they make enough money off the box sales alone to pay for many years of continued updates. 5 million copies at $40 a copy, even if they only get half is still a lot of cash.

Last numbers showed they made $32 million in 4Q 2013. more than enough keep pumping out new updates

I think many of us accept the subscription fees as the norm, but i'm not 100% sure it's has needed to keep the game updated and new content coming.

And the next single-player game would sell well and make profits if ESO failed miserably? If a game of a successful franchise suddenly drops the ball, people will be more careful with buying a new game that has "The Elder Scrolls" plastered on it.

Sub fees arent really the norm anymore, its all B2P, F2P, cash shop, or fremium now outside a few notable exceptions. When MMO's first launched, it was a requirement because servers back then were much more expensive. Now, not so much. So no, sub fees are not required anymore like they used to be. But the vast majority of games will still actively seek to get additional income in other areas. And the people who pay are enabling other people to play for free, which imo svcks. I'd rather just pay the sub fee and theres no hard feelings, if you're not happy with what they're offering its easy to cancel.

As for GW2 Ive never played it, but I assume theres a reason most people bailed on it.

It would do painfully well.

Most people can recognize a franchise and the games inside of it. If Warcraft 4 came out tomorrow...

An MMO made by a different company has NO bearing on a standalone game.

Especially since every single player game before this has been critically acclaimed.

Subs fee will still increase the amount of " new content "

I would MUCH rather pay a monthly sub than be pestered by an item shop or other types of cash stores. So what you are saying is you would prefer to be nickle and dimed throughout your play time over paying once and having 100% of the content unlocked and ready to go?

Top lel. Ming = blown.

By that logic Halo 5 would sell great if 343i wouldn't have admitted their mistakes with Halo 4. Another franchise created by Bungie and later 343i, another company, took over.

ESO is part of the Elder Scrolls franchise, like it or not, and will have immediate impact on franchise itself.

Halo didn't blow it in an MMO, they blew it in SP.

A track record like what ES has with their SP games, people will still flock to it in record.

I think one fair argument against WoW (and Blizzard) was that they had a really long period of time of having 10+ million subscribers and never really churned out content any faster. Oddly, now that they had spent the last 2 years bleeding off subs, they finally realized the old model wasn't working and now they are cranking up the production machine. Cataclysm I thought was a pretty bad expansion, the last two tiers were 7 and 8 bosses. Not sure what was going on, but the subscribers were not getting their monies worth. This last Xpac they did crank out more and better content since maybe the Burning Crusades, I don't think it has anything to do with Sub fees and a lot more to do with sub losses and that's really a shame.
