Connection issues and internet provider?

Post » Wed Mar 05, 2014 7:15 pm

Myself and 3 friends attempted to play together this weekend during the stress test. Of the four of us, only one person was not having connection issues over and over. The 3 of us who were having a LOT of connection issues, (couldn't log in, couldn't get past character select when we could log in, getting booted when we finally did get in game,) were all either Time Warner cable or Comcast cable internet subscribers. We 3 got booted at exactly the same moment over and over.

The one person who had no connectivity issues at all was a Charter cable internet subscriber. Something to look into?

It was probably the server. It crashed a lot this weekend, and sometimes it kicks some people off and not others. You can be playing, and then *poof* your friends are gone, and you don't even notice what's happening because you're still in. It's somewhat perplexing. I have comcast, didn't have too many issues.

Oh, and the person who had no connection troubles was 10 miles away from me, while the people who had the same connectivity problems as me were halfway across the US from me.

Sure, I just wanted to throw it out there in case it helps them figure out the errors they were having =)

I love the game so far, it was just frustrating not being able to play it when I was off work. Which was evidently the same time as everyone else hehe. When I played in the morning on Friday, (beta started at 9AM my time,) I had no connectivity problems whatsoever. It was only at the height of the weekend playtime that I had issues.

I do think there is a connection between all of us Comcast/TWC subscribers getting booted at the same moment and then getting the same errors when we tried to log back in.

I was nearly disconnect-free the entire weekend, but my friend was consistently booted, and unable to play starting Saturday afternooon, through the rest of the beta.

We tried everything under the sun on his machine (including doubling his RAM as a last resort).

He met or exceeded all of the minimum requirements to play the game. He is on Wide Open West cable.

It was hella-frustrating. After everything we did to get him to be able to play, I have no doubt the problems were on Bethesda's end of things. Only difference between his machine and mine is he's on XP, and I'm on Windows 7. Otherwise, our machines are nearly identical (we built them at the same time).

I think this had more to do with DirectX 9 support than anything else. My desktop runs Windows XP, and would randomly CTD. Repeatedly. Same connection, but run it through the wifes laptop? One crash in three nights of gaming. She has Windows 8.

Put in a ticket for it, was told that the build that was on the stress test beta weekend did not have full DirectX 9 support. Fixed already on PTR? That's what I was led to believe. So should be good by launch.

Got kicked off in cyrodil several time and have problem logging back in to the game using that character. Logging in using an alt works fine.
