Do Bows Benefit From 2hd Skill Tree Passives?

Post » Thu Mar 06, 2014 2:25 am

I'm curious if bows can benefit from the 2hd skill line passives. Like Battle Rush for instance. It states that when you have 2hd weapon in your hand and you make a kill you get increased stamina regen. My question is simple: does a bow count as a 2hd weapon? At first I thought no but over the last beta event in the PvP area I was buying random gear bags from the PvP vendor and buying "Little Known 2hd weapon bags would yield bows occasionally as well as 2hd axes/swords/maces.

So does anyone have a definitive answer for this? Do bows count as 2hd weapons that can benefit from the 2hd skill tree passives?

I see your point, is a bow a 2hd weapon well yes it is. But is it according to EOS? I would say no, as it falls under it's own category in weapons, that's just my 'logic' talking though.

Im inclined to agree. There are a number of skills/ passives that might pertain to other skill lines and logic would dictate that as long as you have trained in an area, that effect should be permanent to your character regardless what tool you use. But there is nothing stated as being definite. And tbh, I haven't noticed any benefit across differing skills lines.

I think Zenimax needs to clear this up, either with a statement or something within the skill lists to say whether they are exclusive to that skill line only.

No. All Weapon passives only work when those weapons are equipped. No exceptions.

I really don't feel there is any ambiguity here unless you think really really really hard about it, and I'm pretty sure the ZOS guys didn't. It obviously refers to the name of the skill line, you have precedence in the other five skill lines with absolutely non-ambiguous requirements...

Do templar passives like 30% bonus healing, also apply to healing in general (with a stave) or just the templar class heals?

Its simply not made clear.

If you're using ESOHead as reference, it doesn't include requirements in any of its skill descriptions. I'm pretty sure (can't check now obviously) Mending for example only applies to Restoring Light skills. Focused Healing states it increases healing power, a general stat, so it obviously works on all sources of healing.

Mending I
Increases Critical Strike chance on allies by up to 15%. Critical Strike chance Increases the more Health an ally is missing. (passive Templar).
Now does this apply to Restoration Stave abilities?

Pressure Points I
Increases Critical Strike rating by 1.5% for each Assassination ability slotted.
Master Assassin I
Increases Weapon Damage while using Invisibility or Stealth by 5%. Successful crouched attacks stun for a longer duration.
Hemorrhage I
Increases bonus Critical Strike damage by 5%.

From the assassin tree. Much like any others, claim certain benefits, yet do not claim if they apply across the board. Its no different.

Hasty Retreat I
Increases move speed 15% for 2 seconds after activating Roll Dodge.
Long Shots I
Bestows up to 6% bonus damage vs. distant targets.
Bow passives, does not state if they apply across the board, and does not state whether they are bow specific.
Arcane Fighter I
Increases chance of applying status effects like burning, chilling, etc. by 50%.
Battle Rush I
Killing an enemy Increases Stamina regeneration by 25% for 6 seconds.
From the 2-handed skill line...again, like the bow, doesn't specify.
Now if you claim that weapon skills (including passives) apply only with use of that weapon, why isn't it stated?
And can you post a quote of where you have seen it stated?
In my mind, its fairly obvious that these passives apply across the board...because they have been learned & do not specify a requirement.

Passives do have a requirement. Your character must be at certain skill level for the appropriate weapon class to learn the passive. Like Toxicologist already stated, they only apply if you are equipped with that weapon class. Massyx's skill calculator correctly states that 2-handed weapons and bows are required to receive the passive for the skill lines - these is missing form the ESOHead descriptions.

Tbh..I would prefer to hear this from Zenimax, rather than rely on a 3rd party which could have mis-information.

I don't remember seeing any requirements (not including level) from the game tooltips. (Ofc, they might be there, I just don;t remember seeing them).
