Guild Bank Vulnerable?

Post » Thu Mar 06, 2014 11:55 am

I'm the guild master of a growing guild in the beta. We got enough people for a guild bank and a guild store during the last beta event. I noticed that, as guild master, I could only toggle access to the guild bank on and off. I could not limit the number of stacks a particular guild member could take out per day. This means that one malicious person could, conceivably, clean out the entire bank.

I put a thread about this over at Tamriel Foundry also, and the people there are pretty agitated about it. I felt strongly enough to send Zenimax an email and tweeted them about the vulberability. I'm hoping this gets changed. If you also feel strongly, please contact Zenimax.

Guild Bank facts: There are 1000 slots.

Guild Store facts: Each player has 30 slots to sell in the store. The listings stay up for 30 days. If a member leaves the guild, their sales are automatically cancelled and their goods returned to them. There is a "house cut" taken from each sale, but this money does not go to the guild. (At least at this time. There is some confusion between the beta server and the PTS as to whether this will be a function in the future.)

Could you not control guild bank access by rank? I didn't mess with any guild controls.

.... so dont invite randoms into your guild.

when you are a zerg guild full of randoms that you invited in zone chat, expect problems.

That could become a serious issue. BUT - it does force you to be extremely selective when picking your members, IF this feature remains.

I do think 1000 slots will suffice.

I think the issue is actually pretty serious and the thread over of Tamriel Foundry really helps to illuminate why. I would hope the devs have more plans for refining guild banks prior to launch.

If there is a logging feature on the Bank, that's all you need. In LOTRO, we've had disgruntled guild mates empty the guild storage and we've never been able to prove it.

If the system logs access, then the person can't hide.

Do we know if logs exist?

Problem is crafting guilds. ZOS has this obnoxious idea of no global AH forcing you to join a crafting guild to browse their wares.

Makes the bank useless to them as a guild.

I agree, there needs to be some other limitations in place for access, as well as more ranks to diversify the ranks of members.

Setting withdrawl limits on both items and gold, for instance, is a mechanic I've seen in other games that i've come to take for granted, until I saw it wasn't in place here. Without those limitations, I'll probably stick with personal friends in a private guild (of which we don't have 10 members, so no shared storage anyhow), and then just loot other guilds as I pass through them in slots 2-5.

Can't get the 50 accounts needed for a store in a reasonable amount of time without inviting randoms.

This system literally ENCOURAGES zerg guilds.

WoW has logs but if the person that took out all the stuff deletes the character or transfers off realm before I get a chance to look at the log, it just says "Unknown withdrew XXXXXXX from the bank"

This is how it's been in most games I've played and I kinda like it that way.

"Awoxing" (as my fellow EvE alum already know) adds an interesting and and fun wrinkle to the meta game. You have to manage your guild against infiltrators and make hard decisions about people who seem unhappy with the guild and could be a flight risk.

All in all, I'm used to and cool with the current setup. :woot:
