Are nords the only race associated with dragons?

Clearly the game makes you feel like nords are the only way to go to become a dragonborn when you think about it. Their history, the greybeards...but are there any other races that feel appropriate as the dragonborn? I can't see an Altmer or Khajiit being the dragonborn.

There are a few Akaviri races that carries association with dragons, the golden snakemen in particular, along with the tiger people and their Tiger Dragon King, Tosh Raka. And the snakemen had a lot of influence on the Imperial culture under the Reman Empire. And there is the whole thing about Alessia and her pact with the Dragon god Akatosh.

Prior to Skyrim(game), the Imperials had more to do with the Dragons than the Nords did.

there are plenty of Dragonborn that were not Nords...

Imperials and Bretons have been Dragonborn (the Septim Dynasty)

and we know there was at least one Altmer Dragonborn (good ole Mankar Camoran)..

So no, Dragonborn are not limited to any one race

Khajiit see Akatosh as a big cat. See http://www.imperial-library.info/content/tale-drozira.

What's that http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120311124204/elderscrolls/images/8/82/TESV_Banner_Legion.png again? Ohh right...

Akaviri consider dragons important.

Altmer also worship the time god, though usually personified as a bird.

Apart from all this, your roleplay reasons are only limited by your imagination. However I do agree that it feels more organic, to me, to be a Nord dragonborn.

About the Akaviri? Sure. See http://www.imperial-library.info/content/mysterious-akavir and http://www.imperial-library.info/content/2920-last-year-first-era.
