Which do you prefer? One unit or a trilogy? (story)

I want to know which people prefer when it comes to a story. Do you prefer a story made in multiple units like a trilogy/saga. Or do you prefer stories to be made in one single unit (book, movie, game)??

Trilogy ... octology... because they can milk me money multiple times, more evenings out at the cinema, more popcorn and pepsi, more retail dvd's...

Depends how well it's done. Ideally, something where the individual instalments are reasonably self-contained but which has been planned in such a way that there's more when I want it. Failing that, just a one-off. The worst case is an unplanned serialisation that comes across as really forced and is only being done for the money.

Tbh, it depends on the story.

If they wrap it up well with one book or game or movie then I'll take that.

If they leave loose ends and I'm invested in said story then I want more.

Depends on if the first film was strong enough to carry my attention to the next. The problem with trilogies is that after each film the quality is normally likely to decrease, but there are off times the quality increases.

It all depends on the film as well.

For example I love the Batman trilogy but dislike the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I love epics. I love fhe Star Wars trilogy, The Lord of the Rings both written and film, and Harry Potter both written and film.

Sometimes it can lost track though. The Honor Harrington series is a good example.

I dont think i have a preference for either. As long as the story makes sense and connects well, im fine with a trilogy. One-offs are also fine as well. Although the problem with trilogies is that you might not be so into the story when the sequel comes out a few years later.
