Questions about Havok

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 11:34 am

Since ESO will be using Havok now:

1) How good software is it?

2) Does it have a good rep compare to other same type of software?

3) How stable is it?

4) Does it work well with other games?

5) Is it more target for MMO or single player games?

6) Do you think ZOS made a good choose in selecting Havok then another software product?

Looks like some cool software.

To be fair, skyrim version was either ill implemented or something went wrong.

Overall it was OK, but pathfinding, unrealistic ragdolls, was a bit of a "eh.." until mods came around.

Havok is pretty well know. I was initially surprised to see their logo in the developer and publisher titles during the ESO loading screen, but it makes sense that they are using it :)

physics is much much better, havok is trying to look like physics... But physics is gpu hardware for nvidia and cpu for amd. And all bethesda games are HAVOK.

Thats why, I also believe that BETHESDA will avoid MANTLE... because Mantle for now, is only a AMD thing... And bethesda seems to play fairly for all.

Mantle can be implimented in NVDIA also, but AMD stated, for now, it will remain an amd feature... later...maybe (the same goes to physics... lol) they fighting like chickens

What is very funny is that when ESO was announced last year, some fanbois said that ESO wasn't going to run Havoc.

Havok is a good engine, I think Ageia PhysX (or Nvidia or whatever it's called nowadays) and Havok are the two most used physics engines, but as stated above havok does more than just physics.
