Best Buy changed XBOX One release to 123114?!?!?

Post » Fri Mar 07, 2014 4:23 am

I JUST got an email from Best Buy telling me my XBOX ONE Imperial pre-order release date has been changed to 12/31/14... It WAS April 4th, which I knew wasn't accurate, but 12/31/14? I've been waiting to buy my XBOX ONE until it was near beta time, but I'm not pre-ordering 10 months early so I cancelled.

At least it will give me more time to choose between the XBOX ONE and PS4. Never owned a PS before, always been an XBOX, XBOX360 owner.

12/31/14...really? Ugh...

there has been no official word on this, so cancelling your pre-order was silly. unless everywhere start changing their dates then its probably still on for july.

Companies tend to do this when they don't know the exact date.

June is the estimate date I beleive for the consoles. No exact date yet.

This is Best Buy recognising what everyone has known for ages that April is the Pc release and going silly. Setting it to end of the year means they don't get complaints about having the wrong date, but setting to the end of June would have been a more sensible option.

edit: and yeah, cancelling your pre-order may be a bit premature.

I guess my decision to cancel is more based on wavering between an XBOX ONE and a PS4. I've been reading endlessly about both and it seems that Sony put a bit more thought into their console than Microsoft. Hate to lose all my history, but either way I can't play 360 games on the ONE anyway. Seems kinda silly for Microsoft to give their users a clean slate and a $100 more expensive console. It's almost like begging us to reconsider which platform we choose.

I don't use my 360 as a media hub and from what I've read, the PS4 is built much more for gaming than the ONE. Tough choice...but my focus is on Elder Scrolls Online, whenever it might be released.

Nearly all games dealers set the last day of the year for any estimated release dates. Gamestop, Amazon, Best Buy, they all do it.

You're not the first, nor the last that will freak out about seeing that date though, I wish they would add some kind of caption to it .. like "ESTIMATE ONLY!" or something.

They probablt messed up with the date or just put it as 12/31/14 because they don't know the exact release date. Some people say late June but others say early July.

Wow.

It's a placeholder. That was very unwise to cancel your preorder.

Return your Xbox One, buy the PS4 and then pre-order ESO for your new PS4.

I think that just means they don't know the release date, so they pick the last day of the year rather then using a date which they might have to keep catching up to, and re-changing every few weeks.

@BonesV2, but there are millions of people who play on consoles too. So don't try to start a console war...

If I was waiting for console release, I'd start being worried that the date hasn't been firmed up yet, or that no beta (that we know of) has been started yet. It's possible they could have already started beta testing it and not announced it, but for PC, they always announced when new beta invites were going out.

Then again, I'm playing on PC, so not worried ;)

Well acording to the message they replied back to me on facebook, there is def going to be console beta and it is releasing in june. Though they did not give the day in june. Imo ESO is going to be better on console than pc because at least we dont have to worry about all the addon issues, for the most part the grapics will be standard across all players. Prob some intergrated voice chat w/ keyboard support, mouse support later for Xbox One. And theres always that kick back on the couch and relax and game, hard for me to go back to pc after getting used to. As for which console, i have both and imo the Xbox One just feels better, i dont even turn ps4 on anymoe, unless the kids want to play it.

I haven't bought the XBOX ONE yet. The more I read about it, the more I'm getting cold feet. I want to place my pre-order again, but I guess I have to decide which console to go with. I've been waiting for a WoW-like MMO on the XBOX FOREVER and am looking forward to ESO as I'm a series-long Morrowind-->Skyrim fan... now I'm just undecided on which console to get...

Shops like to use placeholder dates if they don't know the actual date, all this shows is how uninformed Best Buy. No one in the right mind would dream of releasing a game on a holiday like New Year's, it's incredible to think that such a thing could be considered.
