I don't agree.
I don't agree.
I really don't mind them. They're an excellent learning tool. I eventually turned them off because I like as empty HUD as possible, but I think they can stay as an option.
I've never gone into my options to turn that off and it gets automatically disabled after the tutorial/starting areas.
I didn't realize there was an option to turn it back on, but they should remove that or risk trivializing the most interesting part of their PvE content.
OMFG, that brings back nightmares. I was the cleric officer in my EQ raiding guild. I not only had to be a part of a CH rotation, I had to set it up, explain it to noobs, and take the blame when it got screwed up. I'm SO glad that kind of tactic isn't necessary in MMOs anymore.
Yes by all means strip something else from the default UI. Then, when a mod adds it back in you can complain again.
When is enough, enough? What happened to options? I guess its more accurate to say, "Options are good as long as they are the options I'm ok with letting others have".
All I'm saying is this is a very slippery slope ZOS and those driving ZOS's decision is going down so be careful what you wish for.
Yes?
You would prefer the other slippery slope, of "it's all optional, but you'll never find a group and never have a chance at PvP If you don't take all of them"?
I think any changes that ZOS is considering to the api is not because of players crying "UNFAIR" but because addons are impacting the performance of the game. The basic displays provided by addons like player/enemy damage, healing, health. buffs/debuffs are fine.
Going beyond the basics, addons are fine as long as they:
1) don't display any cues that wouldn't ordinarily be visible with all options turned on
2) don't allow automation of actions which require direct input like keypresses
3) don't impact game performance at the server and client
4) don't reveal player information that could be used to hack or DDOS accounts
And kill off the guild invite spam addons before they become a plague.
I'm just going to quote Paul Sage to you:
We welcome creativity and have built ESO on player-choice, but as a game played with thousands of others, we also must be mindful of any mods that give clear mechanical advantages in competitive situations. Maintaining a level playing field will always be our first priority. Our intent with add-ons is to encourage you to modify your UI in a way that is more fitting for your personal play-style, but not ones that could allow you to make choices for others. We do not want those who aren’t interested in using an add-on to feel compelled to do so because they cannot remain competitive without them.
Options aren't options if you're gimping yourself.
