Are instances every man (or woman) for themselves?

Do the roles really follow the holy trinity? I understand the classes are designed to be hybrid.

Most of the gameplay I have seen for instances looks like this.

The group runs into a room. Everyone randomly runs around kill whatever monster comes at them. No one person taking the most damage or controlling the biggest baddies(no tank). Healing seems like they do mostly dps and sometimes heals the party. This bothers me a little because I enjoy healing.

From what I have read about being a healer is that you better pick some damge dealing skills first, and you really only need a few healing skills.

I like the fact the game is gonna play different from what I am used to. I am just confused if the roles are really that important. It seems like people can self heal pretty good for the most part.

I am not trash talking the game at all. I am excited to play it.

Boss mobs have mechanics and group members need to work together to beat them. That said, there is no main tank in the traditional model, but certain classes do have threat grabbing abilities. A healer is certainly an asset.

You should always have one or two healers to reduce chances of death.

Is it correct to say that a healer will still do their part in dps, and then heal when needed?

Also can't any class pick some sort of self heal ability?
