Finally, after 10 years of being an Elder Scrolls fan, I completed Arena last night. It took me around two weeks, and it was a really fun experience in general. And, since I've completed Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, that means I've only got one left to cross off my list.
Daggerfall.
I've played the game before, and am familiar with its basic mechanics - though nothing too in-depth. However, every time I've played, I've gotten to a certain point and the game has decided to make some major quest incompletable, or straight-up corrupt my save file, and I just get thrown back to square one. But this time, I want to do it right.
I'm already aware of Daggerfall Setup, and have been playing using it since my first attempt, but I've still encountered bugs, and would like to find out what things in particular will cause corruptions and crashes, and how to prevent them from happening to this attempt. Also, if there's a more stable build I don't know about, that would be awesome
Other than that - as I said, I only have a basic grasp on the mechanics, but went on a UESP binge and worked out an outline for what my character would be:
Race: Nord
Primary Skills: Critical Strike, Long Blade, Dodging
Major Skills: Orcish, Running, Climbing
Minor Skills: Swimming, Short Blade, Mercantile, Jumping, Medical.
My picks are because Critical Strike and Dodging seem to be the only non weapon-specific skills relevant to combat, and Long Blade is the one most relevant to the Fighters Guild and Temple of Dibella. The rest are passive skills except for Orcish (also relevant to the Fighters Guild and Temple of Dibella) and Short Blade, which I picked for the Ebony Dagger you can get in the tutorial. The reason I want to join the Temple of Dibella is so that I have access to potions - something I always felt I was missing in my earlier attempts at the game - and I want to join the Fighters Guild just for some fun sidequesting. Oh, and I'm a Nord because I just like them. I haven't worked out the advantages and disadvantages, but I don't want to go for something that feels *too* cheap. If I'm making some rookie mistake somewhere, please let me know!
And finally, is there any kind of recall or intervention effect that a warrior would have access to? It's not quite in the spirit of the game, but I would often get completely lost in dungeons with no recollection of the way out, so I can see this coming in very handy. Apart from that, any general tips would be awesome, because I really am almost completely new to this thanks in advance!
