Hello everyone!
When you enter ESO at launch there will be an option to select wether you want to be in the same zone with other roleplayers. If you select that you will be automatically grouped with other RP'ers, however this system is only for the PVE regions. You still have to select the AvA (Alliance vs Alliance)pvp region of cyrodill manually from a list of campaigns.
Now a lot of roleplayers would also like to be in the same campaign with other roleplayers. Folks will have different reasons to be part of such a Roleplaying PvP campaign. Some just want to pvp with other roleplayers, others like the serious and in character guild and character names that most roleplayers have or the mature environment and many also would love to see organised battles and roleplaying RP-PVP events in Cyrodill, think of stuff like organising a wedding that gets brutally invaded by the enemy, challenges and wars between roleplaying guilds and factions, RP campaigns, etc. Players that have once been part of the RP-PvP server Defias Brotherhood in WoW know how organised RP-PVP campaign bring a whole new level of enjoyement and immersion to a game.
So we know that you have to pick an AvA campaign manually, so how do we pick a campaign? As has been discussed in this thread the best solution is to pick one alphabettically:
http://teso-rp.com/forum/m/9324623/viewthread/11409473-rppvp-home-campaign/page/2
So we have decided, that for the European Megaserver, the first campaign that follows the letter P will be the unofficial RP-PVP campaign. Of course if there are two servers that start with the letter P or one following that letter then we look at the second letter and its place in the alphabet. So if there is a server Psychoward and a server Palingdrome then the choice will be Palingdrome, etc.
Exception to the rule: If Zenimax would introduce special RP campaigns to select in the list, then naturally we will pick an RP campaign closest to the letter P. Now Zenimax hasn't talked about that, and I don't expect they will, but just putting it out there if it does happen so we won't be confused on what to do on launch day.
Q&A
What is Roleplaying?
Roleplaying is the act of pretending to be your character. So when you communicate in game you are not Bob the technical mechanic from London but you are Yalthar, the Dunmer longbowman from Morrowind and you communicate in /say chat as if you are Yalthar talking about the woes of your life as a longbowman instead of about the latest soccer match or Kim Kardashians latest dress. There is many threads about this subject but if you are interested you should check out www.teso-rp.com for more information.
Can RP and PvP be combined?
Some say it can't but those are usually the folks that never tried. RP-PVP can be as simple as being in character while you roam the landscapes of Cyrodill. It doesn't have to mean that you recite complete poems or give speeches as you storm the walls of the enemy, it can be as simple as shouting an in character battlecry once in a while. There will likely be guilds that organise their events around AvA and you should be able to be part of some really cool and immersive RP-PvP events if you join one of the more militaristic RP-PVP guilds you can find http://teso-rp.com/forum/m/9324623/viewforum/1957135
In the worst case scenario there won't be much RP-PVP events but at least you'll meet other roleplayers and fight other roleplayers in your PvP game.
I love roleplay but i'm afraid that they carebears that svck at PvP?
This is a common misconception that is not ground in facts. Despite the fact that some of the worlds most famous WoW PvP guilds actually started on RP-PvP realms (often because of the superior organisation of world pvp battles) the misconception also arose right before the launch of Guild Wars 2. Even some roleplayers didn't want to join the unofficial RP servers because they somehow got it in their mind that these servers would be at the bottom of the rankings list of world vs world (GW2's rvr system). The facts however proved differently. Piken Square has been a tier 1 server for a long time and while it isn't anymore it is still the second best performing english language world vs world server in Europe and Tarnished Coast (US) is also a tier 1 server standing proud at number 3 in the North American rankings. While this doesn't prove that roleplayers are better PvP'ers, it does prove that being surrounded by roleplayers doesn't mean your not in a competitive pvp environment.
I don't want roleplayers to take in valuable space of serious PVP'ers in my campaign.
Whilst I don't think there will be that much tavern type roleplaying going on that it stops the flow of battle in Cyrodill, if this is a valid concern then this is an issue you can easily solve that by not picking the campaign that alphabetically follows the letter P.
What if the campaign we choose is full?
If that happens then pick the one that is alphabetically right after that. Either there will come a time where there is space in the campaign at the original server (in which case you can jump campaign) or if it stays full we can run 2 RP campaigns.
Hey, I'm kind of interested in the idea of RP-PVP events, where can i find more information?
You can join an RP guild, or ask around on the forums of teso-rp.com. If you really want to see these things happen, don't wait for it, but take the lead and start organising them yourself!
