Paul Sage is doing a live Q&A about crafting right now over at TESOelite (Link above). I know that bag/bank space is a hot issue over here, and he seems to have a pretty firm stance on the bag space being intentionally limiting. Check it out.

Sorry would post quotes, but the computer i'm on is sooo slow

I'll quote Paul Sage on bag space - I'll leave you guys to decide what attitude he shows here -

I would ask a few things but I don't really want to go through the whole process of making an account there and my questions probably won't be answered.

Pretty much what every one has been saying, except that even collecting for 1 prof alone seems to fill the bag up quite quickly. And no one in their right mind is going to be like "oh maple, oh wait im a miner, can't touch that, limit is 1 prof only, better log my other char for that one"

We should be fine collecting at least for 2 prof's, but the way it is now, you either gather or you quest, you can't do both, inventory won't allow it.

I still think it's manageable, personally, since I don't mind as many to go back to town as it is now, but I can understand how it can get frustrating for others.

Do you think i'm off mark there? He seems to leave certain things open (guild emblems, etc), by saying later on, after launch, etc. This answer doesn't seem to leave an opening.

I'm pretty sure, just like in all other MMO's there is/will be a way to expand your bank and personal inventories... Dunno what all of you are all up in arms about over limited space at the start....

Disappointing, but not unexpected. You guys know this isn't going to change us hoarders' habits, right? We'll just have to go the extra mile and spend some of our time moving stuff around between alts. We can't just not pick up stuff that has value. It's not in our pathology.

The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem...

They shouldn't call this forum interview [censored] "live."

I wish there was a way to sink even more skill points into crafting. Specifically, add a skill in each crafting tree that allows an additional 10 wood/iron/cloth/enchant storage. Perhaps that skill can be leveled two or three times. That way, someone who really wants to craft everything, really becomes a dedicated craft at the expense of combat ability variety.

From what I was doing in beta it will be entirely possible to be a crafter in 4 seperate disciplines at a time. Blacksmithing, Woodworking, and Clothier can all be done WITH PROVISIONING. I know because I did it. It required smart space allocation but I had absolutely no issues once I figured out what to keep. Anyone that says you cannot is a dirty liar. I made my own gear, food, and drink and equipped myself all the way to max level of the beta. Even if higher tiers contain more items at higher tiers I will have more bank and inventory slots as well. To be honest, my inventory load actually got lighter as I approached the end of their tier and perfected my space conservation. Considering that I made all my own stuff, using all my money for inventory/bank slots was not an issue and I remained well equipped and I was sitll making a fair profit. I even have wiggle room here because I also did Alchemy, but i'm being conservative in my statement.

Furthermore any alts coming after that character would be well equipped and make ridiculous profit by comparison.

People really need to stop *****ing about inventory/bank space and saying completely false statements. I've done it, so I know it can be done.

Helpful tips:

  • Do not keep alternate crafting styles unless you are going to use them constantly, you can buy the rocks for not too much for one off items and get them easily from extraction
  • Do not keep lower tiered ingredients on hand or in the bank. Once you have better options and they no longer level you well, sell them
  • Do not keep refined ingredient on hand and do not extract in the field, keep refined ingredients in the bank and only raws on hand
  • Salvage all green items, do not use them for research
  • Do not horde items for research, you will eventually get them all I promise. Patience young one. Only save ones you have personal interest in using and be honest about that.
  • Abuse the wayshrines, if you discover a new wayshrine go back and craft/sell. If you complete an area and your inventory is near half full or over half full, go back and craft/sell
  • Provisioning and Enchanting. Choose one or you will have issues doing multiple other crafts
  • Regarding skill points, choose wisely. You'll be balancing combat power and crafting power if you try to flesh out more than 1
  • Regarding that choice, focused characters (like my Bow/Medium Armor/Racials) characters will find multiple crafts far less demanding as well as more beneficial

It's really not hard. It just takes extremely basic problem solving skills instead of hitting a problem and then flailing around that it needs to be fixed instead of trying to remedy it. If you choose not to take available steps to manage your inventory then you are making a personal choice, that is not the fault of game design.

I don't think that's a direct answer; of course inventory limits exist for a reason. That doesn't make the current ones sacred or well-thought out, in particular the lack of an individual bank space for characters.

I'm certain that they will change it because it will get a lot of negative feedback, and adding inventory space doesn't harm anyone. Things that some people want - which have no negative impact on other people at all - tend to get addressed. If nothign else, forcing players to spend a lot of time logging in and out has significant server load issues of its own. So it may benefit the non-crafters to have the crafters stressing the system less.

So bag and bank space is intentionally a pain in the ass? Nice... I do hope they change their minds eventually!

Well, that was quite the response!

A question for you hoarder types, and I say this out of pure curiosity because I have zero stance on this issue: If only using a couple of trade skills, is the bag space still "way too limited"?

From what it sounds like they are trying to ride the line between allowing every craft skill while still limiting players to a few.

You'd have to read the entire q&a to understand his position. They want to create an economy where things are scarce and there aren't 500 pages of each item for sale. You do that by making resource collection a decision, not something you can just casually do and have leftovers. It's the same reasoning that goes into shared and not instanced resource nodes, localized guild stores and not a mega-server wide auction house, etc.

I'll just put a lil quote in here from a Rolling stones song that should sum up the bag space issue.

While you can increase the bag space, it costs money, and it is not cheap. And, in the beginning, the only way I could put any armor on my character was Crafting as money was not available (getting 1 gold from every two or three kills and 5 gold for bosses, though this was before the massive patch that just came out for the beta)

They will - we're at the ego phase at the moment - someone's design ideas and methodology is being questioned.
