Though I suspect he's a Divine being. An avatar of Ebonarm, whom is a patron to warriors. Specifically, Redguards.
The Ebony Warrior is a Nord in a Redguard's body.
I recall reading somewhere that the original Ebonarm was a Nord, or something to that extent.
A very dark Redguard though as some people suggest he is very likely some Et'Ada
I remember imagining him as a red-haired, blue-eyed black guy the first time I read this a long time ago.

Skin tone, yes. The images in my mind were pretty garish thanks to that opening paragraph, so by the time Ebonarm's description came about I was like "Eh, everything else is already bright as [censored], why not?" Eugh.
