Do You Blog , Have a Digital Magazine or a Website ?

Dear CD,
I could use some help do any of you have any experience with self publishing ? I have been working on a IP and I bought a couple of domain names yesterday but I'm not sure what to do next . I was looking at wordpress , it looked pretty good for bloging and is recommended by many .
I can't quite figure out what a digital magazine is and what would be expected from me by the reader as a publisher and how difficult that would be to do ?
I had a website up when I was a Auctioneer so I'm familiar with basic web design and such . I can't really give to many more specifics but the main purpose of this is to write .
I kind of like the idea of having my own newspaper and want people to be able to particpate and leave comments ? Do I want a blog then ? Would a blog be considered professional ?
I'll figure it out if I read enough but if you got any short cuts that will get me to where I want to go a little faster they would be appreciated.

Yours,
Lotsofcaps

I've always wanted to get started, but I don't even know what I'd write about. :P There's a tonne of things that come to mind, but I'm not too sure where to begin.

I have multiple domains and blogs.

What does the IP you speak of have to do with blogging? Blogging and IP aren't necessarily related unless it's like a blog about the IP for a company (the beth blog being an example of that)

A digital magazine would be like a more professional blog and with more than one writer. Readers only care about content. If your blog provides something meaninful you'll gain readers and followers. A focus is generally a good idea. The hardest thing is getting people to read. The focus part helps, but people still need to discover it, which is done by getting social with your blog (posting on social media sites, sites like reddit, commenting on similar blogs). Note that there's a huge difference between going social with your blog and spamming. Just commenting everywhere to hand out your blog link isn't cool. You have to really contribute when leaving a comment or posting something on reddit. Spamming your blog link's pretty much only ok on Facebook with friends.

A blog can be as professional or unprofessional as you want it to be.

The main question you didn't directly answer is hosting. How big is your site going to be? How many daily readers are you hoping for? How much money a year do you have for hosting? Do you have experience managing a server? Is your audience in a specific geographic area or spread out around the world? etc. That'll help you figure out what your hosting needs are.

Of course also, what's your IP? How does blogging help with it? Why do you want to blog?
