Quick Slots - Opinions

Post » Mon Mar 10, 2014 12:52 am

What's the general consensus on the quick slot system? (Where by you press Q to bring up a wheel to choose an item quickly)

Personally I'm not keen on the quick slots wheel, while quick slots for items are vital in almost any RPG my issue is that despite the name I didn't find the system "quick" to use at all, it was cumbersome and not easy to use during the flow of combat. I would much rather have had the option to key bind a couple of potions directly rather than trying to hover my mouse over the correct one during combat and hit Q a second time.

Opinions welcome :)

I find it isn't really useful once the first set of potions are used. Or maybe I'm just not using it right. Is there a better way to select a potion that isn't in the active slot other than using the mouse?

It would be nice if the "wheel" would automatically rotate. So say you have 1 potion left in slot 1 and you use it. The wheel would automatically turn to make slot 2 the active slot.

Even better would be 3 separate keybinds so I could have one for HP, one for Magicka and one for Stamina. Maybe that's something the modding community can add.

I just make sure I have enough potions ready whenever I reach a settlement/enter a dungeon, I make sure a health potion is there first, in case of any oh Crap moments, and I just switch between them in between combat, I haven't really come across any problems, but I can imagine it being troublesome if you needed to switch mid-combat.

I don't know if its maybe just me and I'm not overly use to a more twitch based combat system (the ability to dodge, block and strafe attacks) I found outside of combat I could easily set my quick wheel and be ready to go. During combat however I found it difficult to swap things about or to act quickly when trying to decide which potion to use. I'm going to invest a lot more time into getting use to the system in the next beta but as it stands it doesn't feel as fluid as perhaps it should.

Aye, it seems kind of kludgy they way they are doing it now. I'm not sure what the best fix would be, but the current system is not ideal.

To me it felt like it belonged on a console where the D-Pad would be used to move quickly through the different items on the wheel (each direction activating said item) but from a PC gaming pont of view i would prefer keybinding or at leasst "1" "2" "3" etc etc corrosponding to the items on my quick wheel.

It feels far too much as if I am playing a console, I see no reason to not have a option to make at least 3 slots key binded, or at the very least have the suggested option of it automatically switching once it reaches 0.

Since its only for consumables I don't see a reason for it to not have more slots.

It's nothing more than a set of hotkeys. I'm used to having 8 at any given time, normally but I think it's fine the way it is.

Sorry, I misread the title and admittedly fumbled through the OP.

I'm ok with the Quick Shot wheel.

In PvP gameplay, especially for those using mouse turning on melee characters, there's no opportunity to press 'Q' and rotate the kludgy wheel while fighting, that would lead to a quick death.

At a bare minimum being able to turn the quickslot wheel forward or back with configurable buttons is needed. Having 3 quickslot buttons would be better.

Yeh I can imagine the problems mid combat, an option to change between holding Q and a mouse wheel might be pretty useful.

The "Q" selector is not intended to be an in battle selection. You are supposed to set what you need and that sets "Q" as a hotkey for that item. Tapping Q during a battle will use 1 of those. Having said that, I think that piece needs work and would be better if you could have a quicker way for selecting from a bigger choice then one consumable.
