Novel? Probably either Starship Troopers by Heinlein or Dune by Herbert. But more of my favorite sci-fi stories come in short form, like "All Summer In A Day" by Bradbury, Clarke's "Sunjammer" or "Flowers For Algernon" by Keyes.

The Lost World. It is 100x better than the already decent movie adaption.

Are you referring to the 1995 novel by Crichton or the 1912 novel by Doyle? I can't comment on the former as I haven't read it, but the latter is very good. Not science fiction though.
