Can't upgrade to Imperial till release? :(

Post » Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:08 pm

So I saw a great deal online to pre-order The Elder Scrolls Online for 20% off, so I jumped on it and bought the standard edition.

After registering the key, I realized it was for 3-day head start, not a 5-day head start. I should have read the web site better, but that was my bad.

But I had a thought. They've said you can upgrade your standard to Imperial editions if you wanted to. So I go to the ESO store and I click on Imperial Edition and see this:

YOU ALREADY OWN THIS PRODUCT

So it won't let me purchase it nor is there an option to upgrade.

So I check out the Support page for TESO and find this:

"If players have pre-purchased through our official The Elder Scrolls Online Storeand would like to upgrade to the Imperial Edition, we are planning on having an easy-to-use upgrade service available at launch. For further queries on this, please contact our dedicated Customer Support team."

So 1st off, upgrading will only be available at launch. So that makes it impossible for people during head start to upgrade or before, in order to start the 2 extra days earlier.

Also, only people that have pre-purchased through TESO store will be able to upgrade to Imperial Edition. Does this mean, since I pre-purchased through another site, that I will never have the option to upgrade?

This is confusing and part of it irks me a bit, because this should be an easy option available to anyone well before launch. Silly enough them charging $20 for a race, but now if you don't pre-order from TESO store, you lose out on 2 days of head start.

It's stupid and makes me question why I spent money on the game in the first place.

I'm complaining because we can't upgrade until launch, meaning no way to get those +2 days headstart that anyone not pre-ordering from their website gets, and no way to get Imperial race during head start if you have the standard edition.

It's only 5 days (or 3), but it's more of a complaint about how they designed the system to hinder anyone pre-ordering on another site or anyone pre-ordering the standard edition (aka not the expensive $20 for a race edition).

Contact both the retailer and the support at ESO and explain the issue. I'm sure they will be able to help you find some solution before launch.

If you got the standard edition from Zenimax you would have got 5 days early access.

I sympathise, it's easy to presume all places get the same preorder benefits and the first tine I read it was 3 days for retail normal edition, I thought the web site had got it wrong.

I agree with others, contact customer support tomorrow.

You paid 20% less than people ordering from zenimax and you ended up with 20% less early play so it could be argued that you got what you paid for (only joking)

I think it was to encourage people to buy from them as they obviously make more money that way.

Retail boxed collectors edition was a limited run with extra physical content in the box, hence they still gave 5 days away, but retail boxed, no real point in buying it, hence 3 days to encourage you to let Zenimax make more money.

I THINK only Zenimax does digital versions and when you buy a digital version elsewhere, they are simply emailing you the codes from inside a retail box.

You could end up with a better experience. As your starting a couple of days later but 3 days before it goes live, the starter areas wont be so overflowing with people all trying to get that chest etc

Thank you Ojustaboo for the elaborated helpful response, and thank you Deoxy for the helpful suggestion.

It doesn't ruin my day by any means, but I wanted to at least voice my opinion.
