Tormented over server choice

Post » Tue Mar 11, 2014 10:30 am

Anyone else agonising over this?

Seems like most of the big guilds and therefore most of the events and stuff that go with them will be on the US server.

I am in the UK. My natural place is on the EU server. I think most of my friends from LOTRO will be there.

I have other friends in the US though.

I know l can have characters on both but my main reason for alts is to share crafting loot. You cannot do that between servers.

I am really torn over this. I have to make one or the other server my home and l really don't know which to go for.

I suppose l am sort of worried that the EU server will become a sort of second fiddle server and that people will go play on the US one just because of big guilds etc.

Anyone else tying their head in knots over this? Wish they could have just had one server instead of splitting the community. I know that is not possible but this is a very difficult choice.

Also, before anyone says make and run your own guild, work and carpal tunnel limit my gaming so l would not make for a great guild leader right now.

I don't "agonise" over a computer game. That's because I have a sense of proportion.

You really want the best latency... on the US one you will get like 200-250ms while on the EU one you will get 50-100....

With the mega server tech you will have plenty of people to play with on the EU server too.... but it really depends where you have more friends.

Nope. I'm canadian, US server for me.

You'll have to make a choice, I don't think anyone can help you with that.

If you can't decide, just toss a coin.

No... not having issues.

Most of the Europeans I game with play exclusively on US servers and as a result will be on US here at launch.

Ive tried to play on EU servers before but the fact I only speak English makes it annoying.

My friend Im starting this with speaks English and Swedish, and would only be using English anyway as a result.

Lil bugger doesnt even use Swedish when hes annoyed with me. Lol... my aunt turns to Spanish when annoyed.

I suppose l am putting so much emphasis on this choice because l know it will affect my gaming experience so much.

I know what characters l am going to make, l know the classes and crafting professions, l have the names.

This is really the last big decision about this game l have to make.

Nope. For once I'm happy there is a EU server, and I'm looking forward to make some new friends. :)

Ah the problems of the first world....anyway PvPing on an American server will svck from UK so EU server for me. Also, this means playing with fellow europeans which is much better in many ways.

Trust me this is not the biggest issue in my life :) Just the biggest decision l still have to make regarding this game.

I suppose l am a little wary because of my time in LOTRO where the EU servers were farmed out to another company and got updates late etc. Even when Turbine took them back though you still always had the feeling of being second best.

Play on the EU server. There will be plenty of guild rising there as well.

Always choose the server you are happy with. If your happy on an US Server, choose that one. But be aware of time differences in your guild (group-play) and latency.

So, i am sure that as been answered somewhere, but will there be language specific megaservers or is it just one big, english speaking Server?

I haven't really considered this, but thinking about it, I think I will prefer the North American server.

My issue with playing on a server that is on the other side of the pond (in either direction) is the gaming time. Most people in Europe would be playing while I am at work, and when I get home, they would be asleep. I would pick the server that is in my backyard just to make sure there were folks there when I was playing. Which I figure for most people are the evening hours where you live. If I worked a night shift, then I might go to the other server as their schedules would be more in line with mine.

Go for Latency 1st. You will find cool people on both sides of the Atlantic so prioritize gameplay. Once you start progressing nicely on the EU server, create a crafting alt on the US server and start doing research. Periodically just remember to log on and start researching so if you do eventually decide EU is not offering you a high enough playerbase you can always make the transition over and start out with a high level crafter to feed you.

I am sure there will be big guilds on the EU server. And besides... isn't it more fun to play with smaller guilds? Much easier to get to know people and have a sense of community.

Not sure if this will be indicative of normal but my latency was around 135ms during the beta. Though I do plan on being primarily on the EU servers.

Decide which of your "friends" you prefer playing games with the most, simple...

Bad company? Same with SOE, blizzard for all the crap ppl say, care about their eu players, patch's, events during/starting at EU times not prime time like other US focused devs.
