Upgrading Gear

Post » Wed Mar 12, 2014 4:31 am

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone knows a little about refining gear.

I've watched a few videos on crafting and I get most of what crafting's about but

I found myself during the Beta largely remaking or recrafting my gear as I leveled up and only

managed to refine my medium helm due to lack of threads or whatever they were called.

Now my question is I know that you can potentially refine your gear to legendary but what would be the point of that say

with starter gear unless you really liked the look of it or something.

Is there any difference between refined gear versus newly crafted gear or better gear dropped in a dungeon or something?

I don't know if I'm missing something or not but would appreciate other peoples insight on this.

Thanks :D

Damage or armour value go up with each refine, a bit of a waste really refining low level gear on live as you wont be wearing it very long.

I think most will be saving the refine mats for high level refines

Ahh OK.

That's what I wondered.

So it really only boosts your armour stats temporarily.

I suppose there is a kind of restriction on how often you can refine your gear due to the components that are needed.

Mmmmm. Makes me wonder if that was their true intention for this. Seems like a waste having to wait till end game before refining is really viable.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that if I refined my starter gear all the way to legendary it would be the equivalent of lvl 50 gear.

Thanks for your reply :D

Making low level gear legendary would be quite stupid. Anything you will not wear at VR10 should not b upgraded tolegendary.

Ok.

Thanks for the reply.

It would be interesting to see the stats of beginners gear at legendary versus higher gear.

One of the things I liked about ESO's crafting system was the fact that the style of the gear changes as you refine it and it also changes as you increase in crafting

experience using different materials.

I wonder if there's a difference.

If you get a low-level rare item that is very useful to your build, or say craft a set at one of the set crafting benches, and you want to keep it for a few levels longer than you would otherwise be able to, it makes sense to improve it.

You don't have to upgrade it all the way to legendary :P Just because you're not going to improve everything all the way to legendary doesn't mean improving isn't viable.

Their intention was that as you level, you're going to keep replacing your gear. Otherwise there's no point in even looking at drops or making a new item.

You can check out the stats here: http://esohead.com/crafting#zz8S8c8zxd8c8z8z808z8

Edit: A level 1 iron axe has 9 damage. At "legendary" improvement, that's 30 damage. A level 16 steel axe starts at 35. So it looks like improving all the way to legendary takes you almost to the next material tier, which means it lasts you 16 character levels... which is not bad. If you replaced the axe every time you could make a better one, that would be 7 replacements you saved yourself.

Still not worth doing to your level 1 iron axe ;) But improving an item with a good trait and a good enchant once or twice might be worth it.

It will look different with refined gear, so if you want to look cooler^^
Also better armour/damage stats, that is good for the ones that do not level so fast, maybe around 15 and up.
If you lvl fast and want to get to 50 tjen not much point in refining low level armour.

Yep, I hear ya.

But as I've mentioned in another post the look and style also changes as you refine and I don't know if it looks the same as other higher lvl gear or not.

I guess I was just thinking I could maybe keep a set on the side and refine it all the way to lvl 50 if that is indeed the case.

If refining starter gear to legendary only gives you the stats say of a lvl 30-40 gear then yes it would indeed be a waste of time.

Alright thanks for the link that answered my question.

It seems lower lvl legendary gear only goes as high as 14 so waste of time :(

A lvl 1 legendary would be a slightly better lvl 1 item. The difference would be 20 damage at lvl 1 or 200 damage at vr10. (made up numbers but close to accurate)

Making something into a legendary item will probably cost somewhere around 50,000 gold minimum. It will be extremely expensive.
