Can NPCs Ever Be Happy?

Post » Tue Mar 11, 2014 8:20 pm

This is the one problem I have with this game. Let's say you complete a quest for someone, such as getting a long lost family artifact. This person is also a shopkeeper. After you give it to them they say something like "Thank you! Thank you!" Right after you complete the quest, they say "Are you going to buy something or what?" in a rude attitude. I feel inside like I didn't make the NPC happy, and I just want to smash that artifact right in front of them. Anyone feel the same way?

Nah. If you help an NPC they are friendly to the player but not creepy friendly. I'd hate to see hundreds of NPCs as happy as the adoring fan.

oh and NPCs are like Marmite.

Not really. As a matter of fact I kind of wish Lucan Valerius would stop being so eternally grateful for retrieving his Golden Claw. One thanks is enough for me.

I get what your saying. I've done tons of misc side quests for people and when I walk around town I want to hear Thanks and prasies. But instead I just get "Buy something" "Be carefull with those flames!" "Mages don't belong in Saarthal!!!". It lowers my dunmer's self esteem :bonk:  :D

Ours is to smile at your passing, friend.

Your Dunmer's self-steem is more fragile than pumpernickel.

M'aiq loves the people of Skyrim. Many interesting things they say to each other.

I've no issues with the amount of gratitude and kindness you get; that's OK by me. But it does irritate me when Imperial guards rudely tell me to butt out of their business when I'm a frickin' LEGATE!

Wish there was a way to get those oafs reassigned to patrolling Septimus Signus's outpost.

I can't remember who it is but there is an NPC who's happy and you can even talk to them about why they're so happy. I want to say that they work on a farm iirc.

What I remember of Oblivion was like nearly everyone had a weird smile, like they were all happy. Even at times of great sadness. "Oh no he's dead..." *Massive grin*

Especially after you buy and sell goods there for several months and he's still totally hyped about the claw like 6 months after. :P

No-one gives a [censored]. The Dovahkiin is a world renowned errand boy, and artifact fetcher. Not to mention that he might have just happened to save the world. Take my advice Harry, ask the inn keeper at the Bannered Mare for rumours.

Your problem is that you see npc's as being real people, rather than a piece of code with a limited number of canned responses.

It's always something they could improve on in future games. Bethesda is infamous for its terrible AI.

In their defense, the bloodiest, most horrific war is still fresh on everyone's minds, Skyrim is fighting itself and now they have dragons flying around burning things to the ground.

Would you be smiling in such times?

Hmm... Both in DA:O and DA 2 most NPCs stand in the same place, and many can't even be interacted with. Even Morrowind NPCs behave better.
