2 Guild Questions

Post » Wed Mar 12, 2014 7:35 am

As my guild (Angels of Death) decides whether to support ESO or not, 2 main concerns have arisen. I would appreciate any insights you may have about these......

1. Clan tags - it appears that the game currently does not have "clan tags" to appear after a player's name. I'm aware that a clan capturing a keep will provide this to a degree, but what are the current plans to put clan tags on a player's name in-game?

2. Multi-clanning - My guild has strict rules against being a member of another guild in a game we also support. It appears the ability to belong to 5 different guilds in ESO could violate this basic tenet of ours. Is there currently a method in-game to view all 5 guilds a player/account belongs to in ESO?

Thank you.

Nothing's been said about either of those. I guess they could be added. Frankly I don't think it's anybody's business what other guilds I belong to, though, assuming I fulfill whatever obligations each guild imposes. I would not be in favor of point 2.

Just curious... why would your guild object to a member also belonging to say a purely trading guild or crafting guild, if that would benefit them and indirectly their main guild? Guilds are going to provide a wide range of different and non-competing functions in this game, so I don't think a "loyalty" argument can legitimately be made.

Not an answer for you, but a comment on your second question.

Throw away your belief about what a guild is. In ESO you join different guilds with different purposes and to fit different needs. Not many people are willing to nerf their PvE, PvP or trading opportunities by joining just one guild.

Any guilds that have a one guild only rule are a complete deal breaker for me. Maybe back in the day when guilds were pretty much just large questing parties, but nowadays and in ESO especially they're so much more and members expect so much more - it's actually easier if they can multiguild because then one guild doesn't have to be all things to all people. The 'one guild only' rule is not one I can get behind.

The idea behind "guild loyalty" makes sense from a certain point of view. Leaders need to plan. And it's tough to plan for events, and raids, if people are moonlighting in other guilds.

Also, for us... we recruit *people*.. not toons. If you'd rather play with other peeps, then you're not much good to us. /shrug

Having said all of that, we certainly make accommodations. You gotta do whatcha gotta do to keep things rolling. And..we'd never get all butt headed about it.

Multiguilding doesn't affect events etc unless they aren't properly planned to begin with. Provided you plan ahead of time, get people to sign up for the event on your site or whatever, then you know exactly the number of people to expect.

As for 'if you'd rather play with other peeps, then your not much good to us' - don't you have a number of friends irl? Just because you're spending time with one or two, doesn't mean you've completely dropped the others. Multiguilding works - but only if the guilds and guild leaders you're involved with have a realistic and mature outlook on things :)

I agree. Thus the "we'd never get all butt headed about it." part. Getting people to sign up is always a nightmare. For years and years we've always had trouble getting people to consistently go to the website. Everyone's attittude is always, "well, we're here and we're online and in Ventrilo...what else do you want? Let's go kill some bad guys!" :P

Well that's their shout - but they're the ones that are going to be missing events and the EPIC LOOTZ :D

I appreciate all your thoughts. Keep them coming.

As regards the lack of "clan tags", I'm trying to make the case that flying the guild colors when we capture a keep is the ultimate form of clan tags.

As regards multi-clanning, the concern is spying. For example, we support World of Tanks. If we had members in ESO that were members of rival clans in our clan wars battles they would be aware of our battle plans before they occurred. Another concern is the ill will that develops from poaching from other guilds.

Poaching in this game is a state of mind - is it really poaching if they're still in your guild and participating?

Also aren't there controls in place so you don't face your own guild in PVP? Something about separate campaigns?

I think your taking Multi-guilding the wrong way.

First off - 2 - 4 of the guilds (unless they don't count these guilds are going to be the Fighter/Mage/Thief/Assassin guilds).

Second For trading because they don't have Auction Houses you will want to be in a "connected" guild or an "alliance" guild where you can trade/sell your goods to others, This may only be for a weekend to trade out your good, may be for longer periods of time, or just for a day. and then you drop out. Since the joined guild will be limited to 500 players, and will need to have other guilds swap in and out so others can buy/sell as well (sort of like a tour bus).

You can be part of the mage's guild, fighters guild and undaunted without it affecting your ability to join 5 player guilds.

The answer to multiple guilds and enforcing The One Guild is for the 5 top guild leaders to each create a guild and then require that all members belong to all 5.

I would just hope both issues from OP are soon solved (if not now).

1. Flags and colors are fine, but I see no reason not to show guild name with character name. But the problem is whitch name? I guess the most important one, so this would be selectable by player.

2. I'm very sure player name will be visible as active on members list whenever he plays. There could be also visible the guild name he choosen (in point 1).

In ESO the "one guild principle" might be watered a bit, but still it should be achievable for guild to see what members are part of.

The issue arises because guilds in TES aren't your traditional "guilds" that you swear your loyalty to. They are more like clubs you join in school - you understand what I mean.

If your guild is still that picky about your memebers only joining your guild, the only way I can see you enforcing this - as stated above - is make your members use all their 5 guild slots on placeholder duplicates of your guild.

For number 2 question, you could restrict your guildmembers to join only trade guilds for the rest of their guild alliance. That's the rule on some of the guilds I know. Trade guild is like an auction house, but not global. Besides, your guild members should have been loyal to the guild. Of course, they will follow this kind of procedure.
