Container safety?

Post » Wed Mar 12, 2014 11:24 am

Hi all - this is related to a topic I started previously about Agarmir's house and stashing things in different places.

How do I know that a given container is safe and anything I put in it won't disappear?

I temporarily lost stuff in the mage's guild in Cheydinhal. Before going on the guild recommendation quest there, I put most of my things into the display case/cabinet in the front entrance hallway. When I got back -- I went out to the well and immediately back in -- it was all gone. It was maybe a minute elapsed. Luckily I saved just before I did that so got it all back. I have now used a chest in the bedroom area without any incident.

Thanks!

There are three good ways I know of:

1. You can look the info up on http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion. Sometimes you'll find safe container info there, sometimes you won't. But it's worth checking.

2. You can look the info up in the Construction Set. I don't know if you're on PC or not, though. You didn't reply to my mention of PC in your other thread.

3. You can experiment by placing an inexpensive item in the container, leaving the cell for over 72 hours, and returning. If the item is still there the container is safe.

What PW said. Plus, as I mentioned in the previous thread, all open sacks of grain are safe (except for the thing with the Bruma mages guild I mentioned). Also, all of the clams in the game are also safe. These are the only two categories of container that are always safe. The rest you have to check individually, either by looking in the CS or by testing.
