Technical Problem with Daggerfall

Okay... I'm having problems in Daggerfall with my current system that's caused me to not enjoy the game as much.

I find my computer mishandling large cities - NPCs are stuck walking in place, but worse, my own character has a tendency to not be able to "Walk" in certain directions - usually can't walk backward or to either side without holding the run key, and I do so at a much lower speed than I should. Climbing and jumping are also problematic - Jumping tends to kill all forward momentum, so I just jump straight up. Climbing takes forever to recognize, and when I do start going up, it's slow, jerky, and any time I get close to the top, it freezes, warps me up above the edge (But not over it), then drops me again. I know it's not caused by my Climb skill being too low - My physical attributes are near-max, and Climb is in its 40s. I fly up walls in dungeons without any issue.

Anyone know if there's a setting I need to tweak in DOSbox to fix this? I'm using the UESP complete daggerfall installer package version.
