No True Fullscreen = no SLICrossfire

Well this explains why I couldn't get CrossfireX working in this game the last 3 betas, because its NOT a true Full Screen mode...its a "Borderless Window" that looks like its full screen. So until this is addressed, Crossfire/SLI is not going to work...I mean come on Zenimax...No PC gamers user multiple GPU's or multi-monitors....

I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get Crossfire to work. This is the 1st game ever that I couldn't. For games that don't have a Crossfire profile out yet, just creating a profile, and setting CrossfireX mode to "AFR Friendly" or Optimize 1x1 works without issue....this is the 1st game out of hundreds I have had this issue with. After doing some digging, I found the game doens't even have a true fullscreen mode...its gives us some borderless window garbage.

I like the game, but I could double my frame rate if it had a real full screen mode instead of this borderless window nonsense. CrossfireX WILL NOT WORK IN BORDERLESS WINDOW PERIOD. Ask AMD, they will tell you...it must be a true full screen application for it to work. I also think the same goes for Nvidia SLI but don't quote me on that because I am not 100% positive..however from what I have seen and those I talked to on the beta whom claimed they got SLI to work said they got worse perormance with SLI being forced then with running on a single card. (SLI doens't perform well in window mode, I think this is why AMD never implemented it)

Now I am waiting for those to chime in and say "Oh its only a beta", thats not a valid argument...how hard is it to have a fullscreen option?....Borderless Window also just adds more stress to the CPU and explains manys issues with this game. If this game can't even have a true fullscreen mode in its beta then that doesn't leave me much hope of this getting fixed. AMD can't do anything about this...they can't even write a driver for this game for CrossfireX until Zenimax puts in a true fullscreen mode. So AMD, and perhaps Nvidia's hands may be tied here.

I am willing to wait this out, but if they don't have a true fullscreen option on launch...i'll just return the game and get my money back just like I did with COD Ghosts. (which I don't want to do)

I can't stand playing a game below 50 FPS...it gives me a headache....This past weekend I couldn't sit for more then 45 minutes or so at a time before I had to stop playing for a bit because it was giving me a headache...its been like this the whole time...i just kept playing because I love TES...i finally decided to check my FPS and i was getting about 35-37 and such which explains the headaches.

Please Zenimax i beg of you....gives us a true Full screen mode option at launch...not some Borderless Window....just gives us the option to change it to True Fullscreen....because as it stands right now...I can't play this game in its current state...it gives me a headache.....

Yes some of us are more sensistive to FPS then others...just like someone people are more sensitive to FOV changes then others....its legitimate....i hope its fixed soon.

Odd i guess i am one of the people that run multiple monitors that does not exist, i have 3 going and i am at a stable 60 fps all the time and i am running 1 video card so you might look at your cards since if one of yours can't sustain 50 you might need to upgrade. Also i don't really think anyone cares that since your hardware is not up to snuff and you cant maintain 50 plus fps that you will send the game back..... just a thought though :)

Also means no shadow play, titanfall devs seem as cluesless, it's window borderless and they say they looking into a fix.... Make it a proper full screen problem solved.

I cant express how much I hope they fix this before release. There is no excuse for this not working in full screen. Not to mention, my antialiasing doesnt work either, probably due to the same reason.

This affects how many players? I'm guessing < 5%.

The graphics are fine as is. I hope they fix the gamebreaking bugs first.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! there fella...your making a lot of assumptions there:

1. I myself am NOT running 3 monitors...I am running 1 1080p

2. Crossfire 7850's are Overkill right now at 1080- for any game out there besides Crysis 3..I can max Skyrim with RCRN, Bethesda HD Textures, and Skyrim HD and maintain 55-60 FPS all the time...Elder Scrolls Online isn't anywhere close to that demanding. (of course the game is poorly optimized for AMD hardware)

3. If this game actually supported Crossfire, I woulld be max at 60 FPS, and I never would have posted this thread.

4. Bioshock Infinite in DX11 Mode cranked to Ultra is more demanding on GPU then TESO, I can max it with Crosssfire at 60 FPS.

The fact is if this game actually properly supported a true "Full Screen Mode" instead of a borderless window mode, it would run a lot smoother....regardless of the GPU. My Cousin gets terrible performance in his rig that has 2 HD 7970...of course he is playing at a higher resolution then me but still...those cards are beasts....

Any game that has a true full screen mode, I have zero problems getting 50-60fps with Crossfire....Im on a single monitor, it makes sense...HD 7850 is overkill for a single 1080p....now if I had 3 monitors yes I would buy 2 R290 or R290x's but thats not the case.

I could easily push 60FPS in this game if Zenimax actually puts in a proper support for Fullscreen mode.

Lastly, tweaktown done a review on 7850 Crossfire X

The results?

CrossfireX 7850's are faster then a single GTX 680/HD 7970 in Furmark

Crossfire X 7850's are faster then the GTX 780/HD 7970 in Heaven

CrossfireX HD 7850's are faster then a single GTX 680/HD 7970 in pretty much every game by a decent margin.

So roughly CrossfireX HD 7850's about 12-15% faster then a single Ghz Edition 7970 or a GTX 680 @ 1080 which both are still high end cards in thier bracket.

So saying I need to upgrade to play a game which it seems is poorly optimized and using a borderless window mode couldn't be farther from the truth.

The only settings on Crysis 3 I can't max are AA...your telling me TESO is more graphically demanding then Crysis 3? Thats simply just not true.

I don't care if 1% of the population has SLI or Crossfire, this is a basic option that needs to be in the game. Not to mention, any card that has 2 GPUs on it will only be using 1, so by design, the hardware is useless with this game.

ESO needs true full screen, end of story.

less then 5%?

Umm it afeects every player that has an AMD CrossfireX/Multi-GPU set up...there are a lot of us.

It also potentially effects Nvidia SLI users...(Most reports I have seen is Nvidia SLI sometimes works in Windowed mode, but it performs terribly) Nvidia reccomends game devs to use fullscreen mode for that reason.

Having a true Fullscreen mode is an easy fix....Why wouldn';t you want it?

Even single GPU users will get a 12-15 FPS boost by running in True Full Screen Mode...why wouldn't you want the game to run better? Considering its probably the easiest fix they could do before launch.

I guess this would explain why ESO doesn't handle alt-tabbing gracefully, either.

Is there some compelling reason why ZOS would go this route?

I beta tested on three 24 inch benq led monitors using dual AMD Radeon HD 7850s in an eyefinity setup and was getting solid 100+ fps on ultra. There were some graphical issues due to the lack of true full screen but nothing too serious. If your GPU is having these kind of problems with new games it might be time for an upgrade... or turn down your graphical settings ... . Heres hoping that release does include a true fullscreen... I would really like to see more than 2/3 of an npc's head when I talk to them.

I can only guess it's easier this way in a technical sense.

Edit: well don't I look stupid. Guess they're doing it sooner rather than later.

...because the needs of the 1% outweigh the needs of the 99% who are running into bugged quests or falling through the world.

Too easy.

They said they are working on it. I expect it at launch, we should get better performance.
