Anyone find Conjuration...lacking?

Post » Tue Mar 18, 2014 8:14 pm

Anybody? I thought necromancy was going to be sweet, because we wouldn't have to rely on some silly staff to reanimate the dead...we can use spells! z0mg! But half the time, the thralls disappear, never to return. But now that we can reanimate the dead, we can't conjure dead out of thin air. What the hell??? Why can't I summon skeletons anymore? Or a ghost? Or other varities of daedra like the daedroth, instead of all atronachs?

And the selection of bound items are lackluster too. Why do we only get a dagger(dlc), battleaxe, sword and bow? Why no greatsword? Warhammer? Axe? Mace? Shield? I *suppose* I could tolerate the removal of bound armor, but that's about it!

It's pretty lame that the on the highest reanimate spell, there's still a level limit on it. It should be rez any corpse as your thrall. On top of that, for a master spell, there should be a leveled version that raises all undead in an AoE, like the Ritual Stone.

Oh what could have been...

Compared to Oblivion, they did indeed drop the ball. Still, I can see WHY they did, to a degree. Depending on who you resurrect or summon,(aka, Dremora Lord) it can be next to game-breaking on how strong they are.

But, I still agree. I don't understand why Bethesda dropped the ball so hard for.. magic in general, to be honest.

Dawnguard fixes your conundrum with 3 new conjurations in the Soul Cairn.

And they are set to be undead, so you dont need to head up the left-most branch

A Master Spell that does not work on an NPC over level 40.

The ability to have a trapped Thrall and be unable to get a replacement, and the NPC comments.

No Clanfear to chase down Mages, and cowardly Bandits.

For the Console Bound, having the Summons not work due to Spell Absorbtion.

The Player Character being limited to NPC's, but Serana can use Chickens, Deer, Goats, Rabbits, Draugr.

No argument from me. I miss my http://i.imgur.com/9xXHnoX.jpg

*sigh*

So can the player. Only Dead Thrall is NPC restricted. She uses the regular Revenant spell.

My only complaint about conjuration is that summoned atronachs/daedra are relatively weak, which is especially noticeable when the player is at higher levels.

I find summon flame atronauts very handy against dragon attacks as they provide a good ranged attack

Yes, it's underwhelming. The level cap for the necromancy spells is far too restrictive for the high-level player, and summons from the atromancy line are only good for grins and giggles at high levels. I find putting points into anything besides mystic binding to be a wasted effort.

It's not conjuration that's taken a knock, it's the number of creatures, generally.

I actually prefer the new Conjuration to the old. I'm pretty sure the only reason we were summoning skeletons in Oblivion was because we were summoning them in Morrowind. It would have been far better had they made corpse animation the primary method of necromancy, rather than having it be a gimmick from an end-game staff. The difference between Necromancy in Skyrim and skeleton-summoning in Oblivion is another example of how Oblivion was just Morrowind watered-down (in every aspect except combat), while Skyrim is its own animal.

Dremora lords appear to still be there. Dragon Priests have been added. I'm not sure why they got rid of scamps and clanfear... but I can live without them.

Having a storm atronach and a dremora aiding you at the same time is more than worth it.

More Daedra to summon that aren't the Dremora Lord and at the same time are actually useful. Magic as a whole is rather disappointing in Skyrim.

Scamps, Clanfear, Ogrim, Staada, Bone Walkers, Dwemer Sheres and Spiders, Seducers (both varieties), Winged Twilights, Xivlai.

The ability to pull the Souls of recently dead and hear them fade as they dissassemble in the Dreamsleeve, or cower from Alduin, or the Daedric Lords served in Life.

Daedroth, Skeletal minions, Golden Saints other than Staada, Imps, Minotaurs, Billies, Unicorns, Goblins.

Bound Armor and a larger varity of Weapons.

Yeah Conjuration is [censored] in this game. There's literally only about 4 summons in the vanilla game, and as you say, there aren't anywhere near as many bound weapons as their should be, not to mention the total lack of bound armour.

So yeah, Skyrim wasn't kind to Conjurers. But who knows? Maybe TES V will be set in the SI.

I'd love to see them done in Skyrim's art style. And the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:SI-npc-Female_Dark_Seducer.jpg and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/File:SI-npc-Female_Golden_Saint.jpg too :hubbahubba:

And what ever happened to Bound Armor?
