As long as you aren't expecting anything remotely similar to Fallout 1 or 2 and don't care that it is strictly a tactical squad based game with absolutely no roleplaying then I would recommend it

I actually found it pretty enjoyable and have played it through multiple times.

Yes it's fun. It's tactical. But it doesn't play like Fallout 1 and 2 at all. Combat is a lot more fun though, especially setting up traps for your enemies, like letting them walk into your minefield.

Yeah, like has been said - it's a tactical combat game with some RPG elements, and not an RPG. You're just following a linear succession of missions. The combat's nice, though. Basically the epitome of what Fallout 1 and 2 could have been, as a natural progression. I don't know how well the real-time option worked, though (never played it that way.)

Fallout 3 is nothing like tactics, Fallout 1 & 2 would be closer. Though its a completely different game.

I marvel at these threads, really. Why do you need the input of strangers to tell you this ? The game's old enough to have a bevy of reviews out for it on the internet and isn't that pricey that you buying on your own feelings is risky.

Tactics is a great game. Good graphics and gameplay, voice actors, and a decent storyline too, with lots of narration from Ron Perlman. You can play it turn-based, or in real time. I've played it in both, but real time means your tactics must be very good, i.e. flanking, bounding overwatch and the strengths of each squad member in order to win. I recommend getting it from gog.com. Only $5.99 and reprogrammed for Vista. You can also get a hi-rez patch for it from nma. An excellent value for the money!

It's a thousand times better than Fallout 3, but not as good as the "Classic Fallout"!

I disagree with this, Tactics is okay, it's an enjoyable play through, but I don't think it's nearly as good as Fallout 3 and certainly not a thousand times better.

FO:Tactics is a tactical combat game. If memory serves, the real time mode borders on the impossible if you don't exploit it, and becomes a cakewalk if you do. But the turn based mode is some of the best you can find of the type. If that is your thing, there is perhaps 4-5 even more worthwhile games you could get, but then, chances are pretty good you already have them.

The setting is Fallout 2 plus even more silliness, minus role playing. The sound is decent, and the reasonably high resolution (1024) 2D graphics means the game still looks pretty good, with or without the resolution mod.

Basically, if "squad level tactical turn based combat simulator" sounds like your kind of fun, there is barely a handful of better choices - and FO:T beats the lot by miles on things like graphics, sound, setting, humour and general sugar coating.
