Some of you may remember me, most may not, but I've returned to these forums in anticipation for the new Fallout game. In preparation, I've been playing FO3 to get myself into the apocalyptic mindset for the new game. I've been doing this for a few weeks now and will be doing so up until Oct. 19th (if Mafia II hasn't consumed my time that is).

I just wanted to see if anyone else was doing this too, and if so, describe your character. My guy is a melee/small guns hybrid, has completed the Pitt and Point Lookout questlines, and is currently just exploring the Wasteland and IIRC, i was last at Fort Bannister heading south.

I "finished" the GOTY a few months back and am still wandering around without any goals. Thinking of starting a new character just to get used to not being lvl 30 and bullet proof. I remember how hard it was straight out of the vault and probably need to refresh my survival skills. Really looking forward to FONV.

I still play Fallout 3 regularly (that is, when we get days off in the military) and I am not buying New Vegas, or at least in near future. While its gameplay sounds very tempting, it's general appearance doesn't spark my interest like Fallout 1-3's did.

how come? is it because its reusing assets from fallout 3 or is it too different or what?

and blackfoot, i know what you mean about the bulletproof thing. i got a character whos level 30 whos done everything but mothership zeta and has the almost perfect perk, so im practically a god. my current character is level 18 i think. its still hard as i increase the difficulty though

I can see how a somewhat non post-nuclear area would be less of a curiosity. For me it's the discovery and I believe that FONV will be packed with discovery. I am almost disappointed I took the explorer perk in FO3. I wanted all the BHs, most of which I got after level 30. I also bought the GOTY guide. Great for getting the most out of the game on a single play through, but again takes away a ton of replay value. I intend to only use this forum/Wiki for FONV when I get stuck.

I am no lifeing fallout 3 and cant wait till the new one comes out so dont feel bad

I have put well over 300hrs into this game. But I have been thinking about giving the game another playthrough before I start on Fallout New Vegas. It will be like sort of a refresher course LOL!

prepare? prepare?!?!?! why would i need to prepare? why would i, the one who fought off hundreds of mole rats while protecting an ungrateful wastelander, need to prepare? im prepared enough! its just the release date isnt as prepared as i am...

I came back to this game after about a year and I finished an almost perfect playthrough just a few days ago because I also wanted to get into the right post-apocalyptic mindset before I take a trip to New Vegas.

I did come back to the game in preparation for New Vegas. I then discovered the DLC being offered at 10 bucks a pop and became excited, that excitement quickly evaporated when I discovered that the same DLC being offered to me at 50 bucks for all 5 is free with the purchase of the GOTY edition for 40 big ones. To think that Bethesda and Live want me to pay an additional half a 100 bucks on top of the 60 I paid the week the game came out to get what was sold to these new players for 40 freakin' bucks! After all the Elder Scrolls games I've bought plus all the expansions they're going to dip their fingers into my pocket again?
It is my opinion that if they sell the GOTY for 40 bucks a pop they should give customers with existing keys access to the same material they offered everyone else for free. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the folks who made and sold The Witcher and Eve Online. I suppose, in today's world, I shouldn't expect anyone I do business with to have a sense of fairness and respect for their customers. I'll just consider it a bonus from now on when a company puts people ahead of profits. Guess it goes back on the shelf 'cause I'm not buying New Vegas until the GOTY edition is released with the nice, free, DLC.

There will be welcome differences, but it won't be that different. I'm not playing FO3 to prepare (as I want to avoid a sense of more of the same).
IE. like Lemon Chicken followed by Chicken surprise..

Edit: (I mean that in as a literal example ~without any double meaning; though I did laugh when I read it back... Fallout 3 wasn't a lemon IMO)

Yeah, I'm with Gizmo. I'm playing through Fallouts 1+2 to get ready. I want them fresh in my mind when I go through NV, and it's been awhile.

Too different. I will be considering Fallouts 1 and 3 my favorite, since their settings fit my tastes the most.

Actually after ummm something like 20+ playthroughs and well over 2000 hours by now, I think it's safe to say I'm not playing for preparation anymore. Really, I suppose the only things that are keeping me interested in Fallout at all are my Fallout playthroughs that I'm taping. I think my Ghoul Playthrough may be the only one I "finish". Also, all the nice new mods that are popping up. It's good to see the community has moved beyond armor and guns. Were now getting into some town, and quest changes finally. I mean, the work that bond is producing is amazing. I still gotta try Fallout Who though.
