Anyone Have any Tips for a First-time MMO Player?

Post » Wed Mar 19, 2014 7:39 pm

I love Elder Scrolls, and have played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, so I get a lot about ESO.

But I know very little about MMO's. I know a bit, picking up some info from being around the internet for a while, but I fear that I'll get into the game and have problems. Granted I played the beta and had a ton of fun, I felt like I might have been missing a thing or two.

Can someone maybe give me some advice on what to do? Particularly, any advice for someone who's going to run an Imperial Dragonknight in the Aldmeri Dominion. I'm not very worried about PvE, it's PvP that I'm terrified of.

Or if there happens to be any MMO gurus that will be getting the game for Xbox One and are going to be in the Aldmeri Dominion, drop me a line

I've seen a couple people post threads and comments like this. Don't be intimidating by the MMO name tag! Play this game like an Elderscrolls game; loot everything you see, take your time to read through the quests, read up on new lore and have fun crafting/experimenting with items!

If you're coming from Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, I strongly suggest playing as the Ebonheart Pact. After playing to lv.20 with each alliance, it definitely felt the most nostalgic to me.

Oh and don't skip the starter islands!

It's okay to take your time and enjoy the scenery. So many players feel that you have to get to max level before the "real" game begins. As a longtime MMO player, don't believe it, take your time, have fun. If it starts to be a bore, find something else to do, there is always something else to do. When you finally get to max level you will stay longer as well, it's those rushers that got to the end game fast then complain the game is boring because they didn't take the time to enjoy the ride.

Have fun.. Yes in PVP as well.. PVP you should not fear it, embrace it.. Think of the other players as smarter AI's , well some anyhow ;) ... Either way do not take it personally or like it is the end of the world when you loose, for everyone dies in PVP it is the experience you have with it that is the enjoyment if you approach it with the right mindset..

Not everyone is good at PVP and you really do not need to be, you can get with a group and follow more experience players they will guide you and formulate strategy..

I would not solo out in PVP as a first timer, more times than not you will most likely loose, but that is not a bad thing never think dying is a bad thing.. It is a learning experience and take it as that... Learn from it, you will usually find that a certain way of doing things this way or that would of made me win the day and apply it next time.. Either way always have fun, if your not having fun then well PVP is not for you...

For example I love the rush when I am about to die for example just as much if not more than the rush when I am about to kill another.

Pvp is awesome. Imo it makes you better in pve aswell. Dodging, timing and using your skills accordingly. Using teamwork is key.

There are intimidating MMOs out there. This isn't one of them. I played a handful of MMOs before but almost always got roflstomped in PvP to the point where it just wasn't fun for me. I played in Cyrodiil and loved it. It was as comfortable and natural as something like Halo multiplayer on an epic scale with more interesting choices of abilities. If you play RPGs and generally know how progression, gear, abilities, etc. work, there's not much coaching you will need to have fun.

This. DAoC was my first, and while I enjoyed SWG (til Sony destroyed it), WoW, and LotRO, it holds a special place in my heart. Definitely having to try to keep a lid on the nostalgia when debating over playing this game, because the ties are so strong. Not sure how well I'm succeeding.

This is an older thread from before the NDA lift, but the main gist of it still applies. Hope it helps. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1486628-a-few-tips-if-eso-will-be-your-first-mmo/?hl=%20few%20%20tips
