Not able to access gamesas.com elderscrolls.com from home ne

Post » Thu Mar 20, 2014 12:55 am

In case anyone is having weird issues connecting to elderscrolls.com/gamesas.com in the last few days, here is why:

A server has gone bad in one of the nodes that takes me from my home network to the gamesas.com / elderscrolls.com sites, and I get timed out. It's been like that for a couple of days now. I can only access these forums through my 4G connection on my iPhone which is using a different node path. Accessing all other websites is not a problem, just gamesas/elderscrolls. /frown.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I'm sure it'll sort itself out eventually. I figured out that the ip address of the server creating the timeouts belonged to att.net and informed them of the issue. But I doubt they'll do much about it in the near future. So folks running into the same issue will have to either access it via a 4G device or go to some other home/business/wi-fi hotspot and access it from there.

You would be surprised at how fast they would respond to this. Most of the time a website can not longer be reached is some Routing change in the core had unintended consequences. Thing is, gamesas is probably not the only website that is giving you problems. Almost anything on the same subnet or supernet could be blocked too. It has happened with our company where someone in Colorado would complain about not being able to reach a website in California, but it is related to a routing change in Montana.

I will send this up to the Admins so they can put in a query with the carrier.

How sure are you it's a routing problem with the infrastructure and not your domain name cache?

As CCNA mentioned, problems of downed nodes are usually fixed pretty fast. ISPs usually have various SLAs with companies and they use the same lines (in part) as consumers, so a downed node rarely stays downed for long.

It's not at all uncommon for a tracert to time out and hang on a node. ICMP pings of gamesas.com have been blocked for years now.

do a ipconfig /flushdns on your windows PCs and see if that cures the issue. Try changing your DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as well.

Most core routers do not respond to any ICMP requests. In fact, with Juniper Routers, they set ICMP to be such a low priority that the router will sometimes respond to Pings, sometimes they won't, and sometimes they will respond when they get around to it. Tracerts are just a series of pings, so they have the same issue.

Also, Ping or Tracert to a Server Farm is not a good troubleshooting tool, most server farms don't have a server to respond, and those servers can be anywhere in the country or world.

Yup-yup. That's why I'm curious as to how the OP came to the conclusion it's a problem somewhere along the route. As you said, that would have impacted quite a few website's accessibility and generally ISPs are pretty snappy at fixing it; they don't leave it unfixed for multiple days.

Which is why I'm much more inclined to believe it's a DNS problem rather than an actual routing problem. 9 times out of 10, when someone has trouble accessing a site it's the DNS cache on their computer at fault.

I went through tech support with my local service provider. We already tried your suggestions re flush and DNS entries.

What makes me think it's a remote server is as follows:
1. I was in the middle of a post when it suddenly timed out.
2. It affects all the computers on my network.
3. I can access it via my iPhone when on 4G, but not when hooked up to my home network.
4. Using trace route consistently got bad once it got out of the rr servers and hit a bank of att servers.

I able to access all other websites fine.

I will grant you that I am not an expert, bit within my knowledge base, and after working with local tech support, I don't know what other conclusion to draw.

I asked if my router/modem could possibly had something happen to it that flipped a switch on the gamesas sites, and they said no.

I can reach the forums through a proxy server service, btw.

I have a similar problem, somehow I can't properly access the forums on my PC, but it works on the Laptop. Both machines are in the same network, but the laptop connects wireless while the pc is connected to the router with a lan cable. It doesn't matter which browser I use, but I have already tried deleting cookies. Also flushdns has not helped as well as changing the dns server address. The prolem is, the page loads, but very slowly, and the layout is completely messed up, I only see the text in standard format and no graphics or background, like a very, very old website. Any idea what can be done about this?

edit: ok, now I also have the same problems on my laptop. So it has nothing to do with my configuration on the PC. I could access the forums just fine a few hours ago from my university's network. Also, right now I am using a proxy and it works. Guess I will have to do it this way then until I find a solution or the problem solves itself.
