if society collapses

Because war and death is--besides being gruesome--interesting? There's a reason why people enjoy stuff like fiction based on political intrigue and war.

Also this is a forum where most people are familiar with games like TES and Fallout, where it's all about killing stuff and living in a post-apocalyptic anarchy, so I can't say it's surprising that some people find the idea interesting.

No doubt. The trick is that all the outside force has to accomplish is demonstrate that the 'security compact' between people and society is invalid. That's why I said earlier the US is the most likely place for it all to start falling apart. All it takes is a natural disaster that puts millions in jeopardy from which the government/social structure is incapable of protecting them...and once people lose the faith that society protects them there is no predicting what they will do.

This is one of those shows that seems at first to not hold your interest, but it is a most fascinating show and it is easy to get svcked in. Cheesy dialog and all. It's about a guy who builds a cabin in the woods alone with tools he carried in with a canoe. This is just the first 10 minutes, but this show is on PBS from time to time.
