Creating your New Character

No worries. Yes, the Altmer are rather tall, so it wouldn't make much sense for them to look voluptuous. Long, lean and slender are the ways forward here. You might want to look at women like Blake Lively or Famke Janssen; while they're not ridiculously tall, they are taller than most, and a good point of reference for female Altmer.

I prefer working with the Imperials, but the other races all have their benefits. The Bretons were modelled after the French, and while it's certainly not a perfect translation and it would be unfair and highly prejudice to say that all people from a certain place look the same, it is worth taking note that they made them in their image; so if you're a fan of women like Eva Green, Sophie Marceau or Mélanie Laurent; you might want to consider rolling a Breton.

Nords on the other hand, being Nordic inspirations of course; are based off of Scandinavians or people of Northern Europe; that have pronounced facial features and strong jawlines, unlike the softer Bretons. Some examples might include women like Malin Akerman from Watchmen, Olga Kurylenko, Izabella Scorupco or Mila Kunis (while I'm swooping a little further into Central Europe there, she still has a lot of strong facial features)

Moving onto the Redguard, who are somewhat a mystery to me; as a lot of their culture implicates Arabian or Arabic inspirations; though the people themselves appear to look more Saharan than anything else, but again, their names would suggest Turkish, Arabic or North African (Amir, Azani, Isran, Nazeem, Nazir, Shadr and Zaria). We're not here to talk about their cultural inspirations however, we're here to look a the physical appearance of their women, and find some suitable examples for you to consider. This one is extremely hard for me, as it seems even the developers struggle here to make up their minds which direction they are taking the Redguard, but here goes. I sat there looking at my female Redguard and asked myself which actresses came to mind; and the ones that popped into my head were Zoe Saldana, Gabrielle Monique Union, Kerry Washington, Rosario Dawson and Gina Torres (for you Firefly fans out there). Have fun.

I can't really comment on Argonians, Khajiit or the races of mer; so I'll finish up with my personal favourite, the Imperials. When you think Imperials, you think of the Roman Empire, which was their clear inspiration here; and though the name itself is a bit of a misnomer, they have done something rather clever here. You see, the Roman Empire wasn't made up of one people or culture, it was made up of many different types of people and cultures; they expanded their borders so far and wide that it's really impossible to find a universal example. The same goes for the Imperials in Tamriel; a lot of them moved around a lot and came from many different backgrounds. If I had to sum the Imperials up in one word, it would be diverse.

With all that in mind, there are clear things that come to mind when you think of a typical Roman; or Imperial as it is; they're tanned, dark haired and in a word; exotic. Make of that what you will, but I'm compiling my list based on that word alone; exotic women. In my opinion, the ideal inspirations for a good looking Imperial would be Alessandra Ambrosio, Monica Bellucci, Penélope Cruz, Elsa Pataky, Eva Mendes and Salma Hayek.

I hope these ideas inspire some people, but if they don't, it was fun putting together anyway. Thanks for reading and good-luck making your character!

I spent a long time tinkering with my Breton sorcerer and my Khajiit nightblade, and a little less with my Nord DK. For the Bosmer nightblade I kept hitting 'randomise' until I got one I liked.

Since I've more or less decided to go with a Bosmer nightblade for my main, I'll probably randomise until I get a base which appeals to me and then tinker with the details.

Orcs perhaps, but I don't have any point of reference to draw on for Khajiit or Argonians. I could liken them to the animals they're based on, but it doesn't translate well into character creation. Most of the other races looks were based on real world races; the Khajiit and Argonians however were created entirely from their own imaginations. I'm not talking about their cultures here either, as it's clear they have real world cultural implications, I'm talking specifically about their appearance.

That being said, I find Khajiit to take after some of the most beautiful animals on the planet; http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02365/tiger_2365244b.jpg

If I were making a Khajiit myself, I'd think about my persona and what sort of cat I wanted to be. How do you picture the real world felines? When I think of African tigers for example, I always picture them laying down or walking around all nonchalant and careless, so if I wanted to play an easy going Khajiit, I'd model mine after an African tiger. Do I want to spend my time skulking around the snowy tundras of Skyrim? If so, I'd probably look into the majestic snow leopards; espeically if I were rolling with the Ebonheart Pact.. or perhaps you're mysterious, silent and sinister, sneaking around in the shadows? I think a panther or black jaguar would be perfect for this deadly representation of a stealthy killing machine.

As for Argonians.. you've got me.

I did likewise, with a few good screenshots you can get pretty close again I've found. And who knows, maybe the newer version will be even better

For a real Agonians, I think of Komodo Dragons

http://a-z-animals.com/media/animals/images/original/komodo_dragon.jpg

Not really have tips for looks besides, all the TES games they are some shade of green (not red, brown, etc)

Thanks, for the tips of Khajiits -- I ready have some idea what my Khajiit and Argonian look like in my mind.. Two Mondays from now, i will be more open to talk about them. After I made them in ESO.

I record some video for that purpose as well and make them a few times in the beta and compare them to the 1st copy. I got them really close.

I have screenshots of my 4 characters and plan to recreate them.

All four have a family resemblance (same father different mothers) and have adopted similar tribal markings.

Great! As if it didn't already take me forever to create a character.

I found a golden mask overlay and two programs. One called Ghost it and another called DAG Foreground Utility.

I'll be at this all day!

It takes some time lining up in-game and it's a bit of a pain, because your character moves around slightly as they inhale and exhale, but once you get used to that it really does provide some good results. As I mentioned earlier, I used it to make my Imperial and this is what I came up with;

http://s4.postimg.org/7ybfgy02l/Ratio.jpg

Also remember to take skin tones, hair and eye colours into account. If your character is pale, try using cool hair colours like ash browns or light blondes; if you really want her to stand out you can easily get away with wild reds or dark browns. Dark or olive skin tones better suit brunettes or strawberry blondes. If your character has a warm pink skin tone you're better off with honey or golden browns; never too light or dark and always vibrant and colourful when working with pink skin.

There's a fun article on eye colours here; http://listcrown.com/eye-colour-everything-tells-personality/ it's most BS, similar to horoscopic astrology and other nonsense, but something worth reading if you're into that kind of stuff.

I put in a fair amount of effort to make sure that I could make an Orc that was pretty, although that may be missing the point of being an Orc. I'm still going to be drawn to the taller and robust classes. If I ever get around to making a beast alt I'll be sure to make them strange.

My character is going to end up a vampire, so I kind of need to plan that in if I can with the paler skin tone and red eyes. Maybe I should go for the palest tone I can on creation for a more alabaster look when I become a vampire and either black hair for the goth look or red hair just because.

I too will be going with the cliche Vampire appearance of pale skin and raven black hair, but it's important to note that not all Vampires are pale skinned, nor are they all brunettes. In fact, Lamae Beolfag; the blood matron and first born Vampire, is a blonde haired and pink skinned Vampire, which is worth noting.

I recreated the Breton Nightblade from the ESO Cinematic Trailers. Got him 100% right and wrote everything down.

I remember back in my highschool art class that when sketching faces, everything lines up quite well. The space between the eyes is about the same width as the eye itself. Corner to corner of the mouth is about middle of one eye to middle of the other.

Yes, it's the Golden Ratio. It crops up everywhere in nature. You sould read up on it, if you haven't already. It's really quite interesting.

This, especially in regard to names.

The name of my last character was Old Woodelf. If somebody want to steal that, go for it.

Sadly, I do not. In the last beta all I could do was make some minor tweaks before it got all buggy for some reason and crashed.

If my character is Breton, I will most likely go with red hair, preferably blood red. I tried it a little during beta, but since they are descended from Elves, to make the character have more elven features from slightly pointed ears (the best a Breton can get), angled eyes and so forth.
