Modding help on Retexturing

Post » Thu May 06, 2010 9:17 pm

Hey guys, I've been trying to create my first retexture for a piece of armor using the Perceptual Moon tutorial, and unfortunately it doesn't include instructions on how to implement a new texture into existing armor in-game in the CS. To be more specific, I can see the retexture on the mesh model of the cuirass when it's dropped/on display/on the ground, but when I am wearing it, I am seeing the original game's texture. In the CS, I simply inserted the exact same .NIF model file names as were originally, but with my altered meshes, in this case:

a_art_ebon_cuirass_GND

This NIF was what I saw in both CS objects that represented that piece of armor, so therefore I replaced both versions with my same altered version of that GND nif file.

Also, my new icon file is TGA and includes my 32x32 picture of the item with no background as I've saved it in photoshop, but in-game the icon is an empty box.

Thanks in advance of course for any help. You can expect a release when everything would be working in order, and possible improved versions.

if you are making a new piece of armor. you have to make all new body parts using the retextured meshes you have created. for example since you are using the ebon curiass for you base you need to look at the original and see all the body parts it puts the armor on. then go into the body part tab and look at those body parts used and then make new ones routed to you new armor. then go back to the armor tab and use the new body parts on it.

Also, make sure the file name you use isn't identical to the original texture.

But I'm not making a new piece of armor, I'm simply trying to retexture an existing one and implement it into the game without altering any stats or the location. It would be the Ebony Mail as is... but retextured :P

you still have to reroute the body parts for the ebony mail though.

My apologies, I misunderstood the initial explanation. I managed to find the body part and modify it, and it works! I see it in-game and for a first job, It's pretty bad, but the satisfaction is still there. I will try to improve it. I still can't seem to figure out how to solve the invisible icon problem though... Thanks again for all the help, eitherway. Seriously.
