Starter Islands... the Continuing Saga

Post » Fri Mar 21, 2014 11:48 pm

i would have preferred if they had done it the other way around

i can live with the way they chose to implement it though

what irks me a bit is that if i go back to the starter islands, when i come back to the first major town, ill be around level 8 and be faced with level 3-4 quests

the first quest i did i got neither xp nor loot, from the mobs i had to kill along the way, because i was to high level, and i kinda had to do a race for a while where i tried not to get to much xp, since i did not want the mobs in the next quests i did to stop giving xp/loot from mob kills

i should likely just have skipped a few quests, but i guess im a bit of a completionist, i really dont like to leave potential content behind

also i have no clue which quests lead to other quests, that may award a skill point and im going to need a lot of skill points for my 6 craft build LOL

when early access starts i guess ill do the lowest level quests in town before i head back, and hope that doesnt make the island quests to low level instead

You can still save those people, they can still show up in the town after and they can still grow with the game. You are just not forced to do this before you do anything else.

The only one i recall acually staying in touch in the level 5-15 zone was Razum'dar, i can't say i ever saw Kaleen or Rana through all of Glenumbra/Stonefalls, where were they?

And presonally i thought the way they handled the DC story was OK, the Prophet tells you Captain Kaleen saved your ass from drowning and now you owe them one, i don't think that's too bad and acually enjoyed the new experience more, atleast on the DC side.

You get dropped of in the middle of Daggerfall with some suggestions, you can pay back the people who saved your life or you wander about until you bumb into a quests or get approached by that dog.

Though i'd love to hear how the handled the AD and EP side, is that what people are most uppset about? The AD side? Or do you feel it broke the flow of the story?

Can't comment too much about any of this but I can say Razum'dar is a big character and I really like him.

I know in EP the original starter island quest was something along the lines of

Spoiler
Save all the NPCs out in the world and *optional* leave immediately and abandon the others.

I stayed in the starter island, of course, so I didn't see what the optional part actually did (whether it involved more questing or immediately leaving). Still, something like this could be implemented in the other alliances, while still allowing players to return to the starter islands they decided to abandon at first.

Personally I like the starting islands, they were fun, plenty open with places to roam and explore, look for loot, crafting materials, try lock picking chests and frankly had some good stories to tell. I was playing Bosmer in the Dominion and now instead of a smallish starter island Khenarthi's Roost I'm going to be dropped on...a bigger starter island, Auridon. Nope not mainland its surrounded by water...just a bigger island. Ok so as a person who has just woken, apparently asleep or in a coma since I was fished out of the sea on Khenarthi's Roost, I'm on a ship that has just arrived in port at the city of Vulkhel Guard with no memory of the previous island or a motivation why I should care to go back. Raz knows me...apparently in my coma I did things...lots of things on Khinarthi's Roost to earn his trust but my apparent amnesia prevents me from knowing what. I fail to see why at this point I would have any motivation to go back to the place I was just now brought from...a place I apparently did things I have no memory of. It makes no sense.

Please put the starting islands back and give players the option to skip them. The concept isn't that hard and its what the majority of players seem to want anyway. Not having them really messes with the story and most likely will deprive many players of the chance to play that portion of the story and acquire the skyshards that are there.
