Just got Oblivion on PC after waiting far too long. I can't wait.

I've downloaded Nexus Mod Manager, but I'm lost on where to begin? I know a few of you are rather experts in this area, so could anybody suggest some essential mods for me? I definitely want one that allows me to make attractive characters and such, so if a good mod that allows that could be included, I'd be grateful. Thank you.
