Walk, don't run

Post » Sun Mar 23, 2014 12:02 am

In this game, I get so caught up in the world opposed to other MMO's that I will not be worried about running normally I will have the auto run mapped but in this I use Sprint, it is there when I need it but other than that I enjoy immersing myself. :)

Doubt I will use a horse, even though I am getting CE. I will use one when the have chars correctly mount from the left like they should.

Perhaps sprinting occasionally to cover distances, otherwise stealth mode quite a bit :)

Yes, I know it costs stamina, but there are enough enemies plastered onto the map where it will still be the majority of the time.

I played Skyrim almost exclusively in sneak mode.

i was told by a guild leader in DDO that if i was seen walking in town and not running that i would be removed from the clan because he thought people who walked in mmo's took the game too seriously.

i left that guild rather quickly when i realized it was all about working for the leader and making the guild money and had no fun.

i spent $160 US dollars for me and my wife to have fun in eso. i will be damned sure not to allow anyone to interupt my fun time in eso. and with the $14.99 monthly subb i will maintain my belief that im there to enjoy the game and find every ounce of funtime that is available.

walking and taking it slow is part of enjoying an mmo.

Thank god there's no player collision, sounds like quite a few of you would be in the way.

I don't mind walking, I usually toggle it at one point in the game, but for no particular reason other than to check out the armor/weapons I'm wearing with the free mouse look. Usually happens when I'm waiting on others, or just bored in general.

Is there any incentive (rather than penalty) for someone to do anything else other than run from one quest to another? (besides crafting etc in the meantime)

Will there be any real danger or surprises (obviously not) for me not to "speedrun" through the dungeon?

What will the strategy guide on the internet tell me to do?

Do I even need to notice or pay attention to the player, since, even if I hit it first he has plenty of time to hit it as well and we will both get the loot and will be on my way as if he was never even there?

Forgive me for the nature of my answers, but they reflect what mmorpgs are today - even if you try to RP, the game itself is not RP friendly and shelters you to the point of absurdity.

Nah, light actually. It regenerates quickly, and moments of regeneration, even if it is just looting a dead enemy or picking flowers, happens often enough it doesn't seem to be an issue. Although considering two pieces of medium. Partly for looks, and partly for the minor boost.

Standing still also doesn't drain it, just moving while stealthing.

If I catch any of you non roleplayers running in the street I'm going to shoot you down with my bow.

No running in the street!

I walk in all my TES games, but sadly I will be using run more frequently in ESO. I walk through parts of town, and I'll probably use a mix of walk/gallop when traveling between points on horse. But I won't be walking as much as I have in my standalone games.

I agree. You would have thought they would have learned from Skyrim. In Skyrim walking was miles too slow, meaning you couldn't even walk along side an NPC that was also walking. Counter to that, the run and sprint speeds were ridiculously fast - and horses were almost pointless.

Thankfully there are many mods that increase walk speed, decrease sprint speed and increase horse speed in Skyrim, though we don't have that luxury in ESO.

I never quite realized why it felt weird, until i got the same speed walking mod, and the realistic speed walking mod. It was night and day.

The base walking speeds in all the TES games was awful. The very first mod I made for Oblivion was speeding up my horse to move from snail pace to pleasant riding speed!

I really like walking the horse through town, Put it on autowalk and just cruise around.

This sums up my beta experience. Stealth and sneak attacks from behind are worthless in the PVE parts of this game. By the time you can even get close enough to attack from behind, the mob, and the next two mobs, are already dead.

There are really only two PVE archetypes in this game, at least in the beta game. The 'tank' types that leap from battle to battle as fast as possible and the 'follower' types that just try to keep up and get a swing or two in before the kill or stay just far enough behind so they get the treasure at the end with zero risk.

I have to say, Balgruuf's song right after that is so good. Brought tears to my eyes.
