Question to other Ferret owners

So I have had Bandit for about 6 months or so. He is an adventurous little guy and loves to lick my face and my arms. The problem is I believe his claws need trimming, they are really long and appear to give him trouble when he walks around outside of his cage. I am affraid that if I get them cut he wont be able to move around his cage because he uses them to grab on to the bars to pull himself up. The cage I got from the previous owners seems incomplete. it has a tube (which he absolutely hates climbing up, I might add) and 4 platforms, no ramps or anything. So in order to get down to his litter box he has to climb down the tube, which isn't a problem. But when he climbs up upon coming out of the tube he chooses the higher of the platforms to get onto, even though I set it up so one of the platforms is right next to the opening. He has to use his claws to grab the bars on the cage to pull himself up onto the platform. I took him out yesterday and noticed he has some fur missing on his lower area (around where his male parts are). I am guessing that is from having to drag his body over the platforms. So I when I cleaned out his cage yesterday I put all of the platforms closer together, I hope that helps him. I intend on getting him a new cage with ramps and floors. He has fallen off of the top platform before, and that makes me worried that he will fall and get hurt one time. So my question is, should I clip his claws now or wait until I get a new cage where he doesn't rely on his claws to pull himself up? I would have to clip them myself since there are no vets around here that will work with ferrets. I am thinking about getting him a cage like this...

But everything I can find is soooo expensive. I want to get him a big one because the one he is in now is big and I want him to still have room in the new one. The other important factor with this one is that he cant fall from the top to the bottom because each platform covers the whole cage. This is the cage that the previous owners gave me with him, but it is missing almost everything seen in the image.

Now I know ferrets can be stubborn and dont really like change so how will he react to getting a new cage with ramps? Will he even know how to use the ramps?

As always, thanks for the advice!
