I tried posting a topic with a link to something funny so everyone could see it and it stated "i do not have permission to post links" well then.. how do i get the permission to post links?

You need, IIRC, at least 5 posts and I THINK be a member for a couple days. It might seem annoying, but it's intended to curb spambot user accounts.
