Runescape, anyone?

I feel like a 14 year old for asking this on this forum which is full of people who play proper PC games, but oh well. :P

I'll be staying at my grandma's for a while and her laptop svckS. But it's good enough to play Runescape, and I've actually been itching to give it a shot again, seeing as I played it since 2007 (stopped in 2011 properly and am picking it up again) it triggers nostalgia for me so I like to stick my head in from time to time to see what's up. I'm now a total noob, seeing as the game's fundamentally changed (for the worse, I say) and I really just spend my time doing non-combat skills.

Has anyone played it previously? Or better yet (for me) still play it and wanna hook up and... I dunno... fish for lobsters? I have membership at the moment so I can do anything.

If you've played it, what's your opinion on how it's changed over time? And do you think it reflects the MMO market as a whole?

i tried playing runescape a couple months ago, got nostalgic for the old mining grind. but they've changed it so much and their servers all svck so badly with lag that I dropped it right away.

Yeah, I agree, although I think I'm not enjoying the game because

A. I've got nobody to play with now, I'm all on my lonesome. But as a result there's little lag for me.

B. After the DRASTIC changes in the last couple of years I know absolutely NOTHING, and the tutorials always svck.

Runescape died the very moment someone bought a Slayer Cape from Jagex for $300 on the Squeal of Fortune.

The game was competitive and highscore based. Being able to buy your way up the leader boards was a [censored] move.

Well, i stopped in 2006, guess how much i know :D

I did go back randomly in the past years though, mainly because my old computer couldnt play anything and i was bored i think. I used to just mine and smith the whole time in 2006. I'd make bronze plate armors and attempt to sell them at the bank (of course nobody wanted them), then i'd sell them at a general store. I couldnt figure out how to make money :( And no, i wasnt aware of search engines back then.

Back then people used to scream their heads off in banks trying to sell stuff. When i went back i found out of this Grand Exchange thing, which apparently is an online market for the game. T'was marvellous :D

But hey, you can just go back and enjoy the more tranquil skills like cutting trees, making fires and cooking. I loved cooking. Back when there wasnt a grand exchange i couldnt figure out how to get flour except grind it manually at the windmill. Had to fill half my inventory with pots and the other half with wheat from the field. And traverse the levels of the windmill to pull the levers to get flour. You don't have to know stuff about the game if you're playing it for a short while. Treat it like a new RPG i suppose? :D Its not like you're aiming to get XXX items or XXX level anyway.

Main gripe i had with that game in the past was that my character walked so darn slow. Sure there's the run option, but you need to wait for your energy to recharge.

Was a player from 06 to 09 and had maxed out cb lvl. I believe I had around 18-19 skill capes and all the money I ever needed. Played way too much but I had a lot of fun while I was disabled. Wound up selling the account when friends stopped playing and the game became "noob friendly". The bots and gold farmers most would say ruined the game. I believe it was all the whiney kids who complained things were too tough so Jagex made it easier for them. And then it made all my efforts and time pointless. I had enough and I was done.

I'd be lying if I said I didnt miss it.

I wish mmo's did mining like runescape. Instead of having to go through dungeons and fight monsters in the wild in order to mine. Maybe I'd play them
