SleepyMoo's How to play ESO on Linux guide thingy!

Post » Mon Mar 24, 2014 7:34 pm

After much testing and frustration, I has done it! :3 yay!

Now you can play ESO on linux as well, provided you are running DEBIAN of some sort, or Xubuntu (I tested with these two)

Please be aware I am a total newbcake at linux and this is not a very .. erm.. well lets just say it's my first time ^^

With that having been said, I urge you to backup your current WINE install before you install my modded WINE install o.o

Download it here: http://www.filedropper.com/esowinepatchedsleepymoo

then follow the simple instructions below:

step 1: turn on your computer

step 2: have some tea

step 3: breath deep and relax because I dealt with all the tedium for you :happy:

step 4: open your Terminal anywhere and do SU mode

step 5: type

$ cd /usr/share/ca-certificates/
hit enter
$ sudo mkdir custom
hit enter
$ sudo nano /usr/share/ca-certificates/custom/Thawte_CS_CA_G2.crt
hit enter

step 6: paste this into the window that appears

then hit CTRL and X then y then hit enter

step 7: type

$ sudo nano /etc/ca-certificates.conf
hit enter
add this to the bottom of the list of text that appears custom/Thawte_CS_CA_G2.crt

press ctrl and X then y then hit enter

step 8: open a new terminal and type$ sudo update-ca-certificates

hit enter!

step 9: unzip the file you downloaded to your desktop or wherever you want it to go

step 10: open a terminal inside the folder of the unzipped file

step 11: delete all installs of WINE you currently have ( this is why you made a backup earlier ) easiest way to remove it is through "playonlinux"

step 12: in the terminal paste the following and hit enter

sudo make install

wait patiently for it to finish

then run "PLAYONLINUX" and do not choose to install any WINE just ignore the fact that it thinks it has no installed WINE

now install the game with the installer you download from the official site

and uncheck run

, after the needed goodies and game install , it will error, thats fine, close the game and hit next, set your desktop icon and then start the game from it, it should now get past the loading screen and begin patching and allow you to play,

NOTE: you must enable OPENGL mode in the game for it to play correctly

go to "my documents" and in the file called UserSettings.txt inside "LIVE" paste the following

SET GraphicsDriver.7 "OPENGL"

save it , start the game and you should now be able to play (no grey button) no frustration... no annoyance

enjoy : )

Kudos for your effort. But this is one of those things that the Linux world needs to fix. It needs a proper Windows emulator (that doesn't require this kind of technical wizardry), and they need to kill off Debian. Or Gentoo. Take your pick, I don't care.

Oh, this might be the best post I've seen in weeks.

ESO without needing to switch to that despised OS.

Admittedly I'll probably drag my feet until after launch so I'm not fighting with Ubuntu and making sure this is working right, at the same time as figuring out the bugs in the game, but I will definitely play with it at that point.

Please Note: This has not been tested by the Community (at least enough times to figure out if this will work or not for everyone). So, proceed cautiously and report back any issues that you experience. This way folks who want to attempt this can do so with as little issue as possible.
