Best Heavy Armour for a Stormcloak Soldier

Post » Tue Mar 25, 2014 12:32 am

Since getting Skyrim, I've always played Empire Supporting characters (as Oblivion was my first game) I thought I'd be different this time and have a Stormcloak play through.

I'm paying a Hard as Nails Nord Warrior, Wrath Wolf-Runner, with Requiem installed so I NEED the extra protection Heavy Armour provides. However, I've noticed that NO ONE in the Stormcloaks wears Heavy Armour at all!

What is the most fitting Heavy Armour for a Stormcloak Warrior to wear, running into battle with his Comrades? I have full Steel at the moment, but I have a nagging feeling that in the heat of Battle, this could be mistaken for Imperial Officers Armour and I could get slaughtered by my Brothers!!

I'm not sure any of the vanilla ones really work, except maybe Dragonbone - all the other higher-level armours you can get are from a non-Nord race. Oh, except Nordic Carved, if you have Dragonborn, that's pretty good. If you mod, I'm sure there must be some decent Stormcloak-friendly heavy armours, or you could always use Cloaks of Skyrim and wear a Stormcloak, er, cloak with your steel plate?

Wolf armor would work best for a male character. Not so keen on the female version.

Steel Plate or Nord Carved IMO. For vanilla of course.

If you mod, there's this http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48160/? which replaces a lot of the female armours with essentially re-proportioned versions of the male ones (good if you want to roleplay as a woman who doesn't have to worry about a blow to the chest area shattering her sternum in steel plate, say...)

Nothing is more fitting for a Stormcloak than Nordic Carved armor.

I would have to agree with A Bear of a Man, when I did my Stormcloak playthrough it was before Dragonborn had come out but looking back I can see why Nordic Carved would seem and look most appropriate. I wouldn't suggest Wolf because the association with the Companions and they are ultimately neutral in the war. Besides that the Ancient Nordic armor and the Helm of Yngol might be a good choice.

Whenever I play the Cw questline I like my character to stand out visually compared to the other soldiers. Makes me feel more important and not just another soldier.

As far as heavy armor goes, you can never go wrong with steel plate, wolf, or my personal favorite, ebony.

Awesome! I wasn't even aware that mod existed. Just look at how much better wolf armour looks in the before/after image.
