Teach me about your food...2

Post » Tue Mar 25, 2014 7:17 am

This is a continuation of my http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1481707-teach-me-about-your-food/.

I'm looking for dish suggestions from outside the US, or ones within the US that are out of the mainstream (regional/ethnic dishes). I also want to find the ingredients in my local grocery store.

The way the first thread worked, someone would make a suggestion, I'd research recipes, make the dish, then report back. If I ended up making something which didn't closely match existing recipes online, I'd post it to the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1437511-cooking-and-sharing-recipes-thread/page-1.

These are the dishes I've tried.

Chicken Curry

Pierogi

Chicken Curry 2

Pierogi with sour cream

Bigos

Cottage Pie

Goulash (Gulyásleves)

Currywurst

Scrambled eggs and maple syrup

Things suggested that I haven't gotten to, yet.

More curries

Asian- stir fry, Thai, plum sauce, oyster sauce

Haggis, neeps, and tatties

Swedish mashed potatoes

Yellow pea soup

If you have a dish I should try, just post it.

While I'm sure you're looking for a more refined dish, nothing satisfies me more than a good calzone. :3 I went to a restuarant and got one, but they also had chopped tomatoes in tomato puree on the side to eat it with, and by all I hold dear it was divine. If you want something cheap, tasty, filling, greasy and unhealthy, then calzone + chopped tomatoes is the way forward.

I don't currently have a working oven, so baking is out. I might be able to come up with a way to fry a calzone.

Horse meat (it tastes like lean beef--it's mostly just so you can say "I ate horse").
