I made a Redguard...

Post » Tue Mar 25, 2014 11:10 am

But I'm not sure what I'd like him to be....

I already have an Orc two handed, a sneaky imperial ranger and a dunmer witchunter. What role should a redguard fill? i know lore wise they aren't too keen on using magic...unless it's alteration and i like to keep my characters loosely tied in with the lore. Anyone have any class ideas? :D

I'm currently playing a character that does not wear armor except a shield and uses alteration and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I think it would be fun to wear the Redguard clothes with a shield and scimitar and use alteration spells with mage armor. Or, you could go all http://uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Trayvond_the_Redguard and be a pure mage.

You could go 1 handed sword, shield, and light armor combined with Alchemy for healing and whatnot.

Edit: Oh! and is this PC or Console?

Break the norm, Be a master mage :mage:

I know you said you like lore though...maybe your redguard could be an exile or some kind of rebel.

I'd say light armor, with dual wield.

Mystic sorcerer + dagger sounds pretty good.

Healer, hunter type. I'm using it for my Altmer at the moment, it works great.

Make a Paladin. My Redguard Paladin Denzel was one of my most enjoyable playthroughs yet! He had a long white beard too! He looked absolutely gorgeous! :D

You don't have to put lore aside. Lore is not a rigid set of rules, it is a flexible thing. Just because redguards don't tend to like magic doesn't mean it would be lore breaking to have a redguard mage, in fact I'd say it would be lore breaking to suggest otherwise. Play what you want :D.

Im thinking a healer. Aim of the game is to keep a follower alive.

Good point, everyone's different! :P

It's a pretty fun build. And yeah, keeping a follower alive is always good.

Ever tried blade + shield?

It's pretty fun. Working on your timing, bashing your enemies skulls in, feeling badass as not even giants can penetrate your defense, etc.

There's no rule that says redguards can't learn magic. Since you mentioned alteration, I think you had http://uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Trayvond_the_Redguard in mind? You can be like him, just don't use conjuration or calm/frenzy. Muffle and Invisibility might be OK since you cast them on yourself and don't mess with anyone's minds. Even bound weapons might be OK, if you pretend it's a Shehai instead of a daedric weapon.

It all boils down to whether he wants his character to be a traditional type or not.

I once played a conjurtion/alteration/restoration/one-handed Redguard, specializing in summoned swords. I no longer remember what they're called, but I remember from a book in Daggerfall about how the greatest of Redguard swordsmen can use something like a "spirit sword" or something... and that's what he was, using alteration in place of armor, restoration in place of shields, and conjuration in place of swords. He also wore enchanted corsair clothing instead of robes.

I had this question answered for me last month, but I forgot. Why do Redguards dislike magic? Isn't it because of some evil wizard who was a Redguard?
