Gaming pads for ESO?

Post » Wed Mar 26, 2014 11:50 am

G13, Orbweaver and others, I'm currently considering whether it's worth getting one for ESO.

In other games I played I could usually get around without having to stretch my fingers up to the number keys too often. However, that's not the case in ESO and I expect a gaming pad could very well give me a big edge in pvp. I have never used one and cannot speak from experience though.

What do you think of using a gaming pad in ESO? Are you going to use one? Would you consider buying one a reasonable investment? (A G13 is about 75 euros where I live)

If you can teach yourself to utilize the G13's thumb stick, it's gonna be a great addition. If not, just reassigning keyboard keys in a comfortable, reachable distance to wasd does almost the same. Less the programmable keys, of course.

I went with G13 I was also looking at the orb weaver as I used A nostromo speed pad(OrbWeaver predecessor)for years and years however I just did not like the razor software so I went with Logitech and a G700s mouse.

I am happy with both vs the price of one OrbWeaver I was also disappointed they dropped the scroll wheel of the orb weaver which was its nail in the coffin.

Gaming pads will give you an edge in most competitive games over a regular keyboard, this is because the movement stick on the pad is similar to a console controller's anolog stick. A game pad + mouse combo allows both superior character movement and superior camera movement/aiming. It won't give you much of an advantage in terms of ability keys or muscle memory, since you can easily rebind the number keys to whatever you are comfortable with. Heck, I bound all my abilities (except Ult and item) to my mouse's scroll and side buttons.

It may take quite awhile to get used to the movement stick though, since you control it using your thumb at an unfamiliar angle. It will be difficult even if you are accustomed to console anolog sticks, and moreso if you are used to WASD.

As to not have to open another thread, quick question on mice. Anyone have any suggestions for a decent one for this or any other title where the keyboard/mouse combo might be preferable to a gamepad?

G600. Side keys can be a bit tricky to get used to, especially if you have really big or tiny hands. I'm a logitech's man, but I suppose any other brand of mice with side keys will do, too.

Thanks for that. I'll start my research there.

I am using a steel series pad and am happy....

after edit : I confused the pads... Well, I have a 10$ from logitech keyboard, for many years and I am also happy. Btw I made a research and I also found Tartarus by Razor, its 50 euro difference from the big brother and 20 euro less than the logitech one.
