Still no True Fullscreen mode?

Post » Thu Mar 27, 2014 6:44 am

Hi all,

In the previous beta, fullscreen was just a borderless windowed mode. Seeing as the ESO's built-in AA (which is really post-AA) is terrible, I would like to force AA through drivers.

However this is not possible in borderless windowed mode. Even some of the most experienced people over at have not been able to force a better AA through drivers.

Would like to know if anything changed during last beta with regards to true Fullscreen mode and Anti-Aliasing because otherwise the game looks awful.

Thanks in advance.

What do you consider true full screen? I typically run at very high resolution settings and I have not experienced this problem you're having.

True full screen = true fullscreen like all other games have.

In ESO, while you can set "fullscreen" mode is technically in fact a 'borderless fullscreen windowed mode'. This costs both FPS and makes forcing hardware AA impossible. If you play at 1080p or lower resolution then there is substantial aliasing in the game especially on foilage while moving. This is sometimes also called 'shimmering'.

They stated a FOV slider and true fullscreen is coming after launch. Couple topics in the forum about it.

Yea if that makes the difference between awful and acceptable, he's playing the wrong game.

One thing that bugs me is that in "Fullscreen Borderless Window Mode" you cant force ANY hardware controls. Adaptive VSync, SSAO, AA, AF, Transparency AA, Frames To Render, anything.

Thats why I'd like true fullscreen, gotta put my GTX 780 to work!

By the way, for anyone thats confused by what we mean, the current "fullscreen" allows you to Alt-tab without the game minimizing and run on your desktop where windows can cover it. This would not be the case in true fullscreen, where it would minimize the program if Alt-Tabbed and display your entire desktop.

Can't get SLI to work without it either.

Kind of odd they don't have it yet.

This. I have 2x780Tis i want to put to work. The beta looked nice, but none of the graphics enhancements worked so it will look far far far better.

The textures and effects are all beautiful. But they get disrupted a LOT when you are moving around because of the shimmering. Do you guys even look beyond your character?

Since this will come eventually after the launch, it's not really too big a deal. One can always wait to buy the game until all the important stuff is patched in, or trust in the things devs say (with the risk to get burned).

I consider true full screen to not allow my mouse to slide off the screen in a multiple monitor setup. I found when looting several containers quickly through the prison that moment you click to loot, my out of game mouse cursor would wander off my main screen and the next click, I click myself out of game focus.

This is pretty important. None of the hardware aspects of the game take effect when you change the game settings.

ATM there is n fullscreen it's a borderless window, they said they are adding true fullscreen, difference is better performance using a proper full screen over a window, things like shadow play sli xfire will work.

The fx aa is awful but it's there to have a minimum effect on CPU/GPU it just blurs though.

I was actually enjoying this because I have my 2nd monitor displaying work stuff (I work from home) and I liked being bale to slide over to the other monitor without minimization so I could see if I was still "safe", but true fullscreen mode will be nice when it comes.

Granted that ability is nice... since sometimes alt-tabbing can mess up. Losing focus on my main monitor is a pain sometimes though depending on what's happening in-game.

I saw that about the FOV slider, but not the fullscreen. Last I heard, they said it would be in for launch. Do you have a link?

You could still do it the old way. True full screen would just be another option.

They mentioned it in a list of things (like Craglorn) that they expect to have done soon or in the future. Can't remember the exact wording but no expectations of it at launch.

Found it:

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to drop a line in to talk about some things coming to the game in the future that we thought you might want to know about. Of course, there is way more happening than what is listed here, with team busy on many initiatives including continued bug fixing, balancing, and other features. But these are things we can offer some tidbits on that you’ll hopefully be seeing soon. As with anything in development, things could change, so we are not guaranteeing these.

Adventure Zone – Craglorn and Trials
We are going to be talking about this in lots of detail very soon. I know everyone is eager for details, and they will come soon.

FOV Slider
There isn’t a lot to say about this feature that isn’t in the title, other than we will be adding it in. We know different people have different Field Of View settings which will make them comfortable, or just not nauseous.

Improved World Interactivity
You will be able to pick up even more objects in the world, including picking up that sword or armor off the rack.

Death Recap
In your darkest hour, we rub it in. Just kidding. When you die, you will now be informed of who or what killed you, what the last top five events were that contributed to your death, and offer some hints that might contribute to your success in the future. This will be a UI element that comes up when you die. We don’t want you to die, but if you do, we want you to be a better person for it.

Battle Level Off
We're adding a toggle so you’ll be able to turn off battle leveling in Cyrodiil if you wish.

Exclusive Full Screen Mode
In Digicolor. Okay, Digicolor isn’t really a thing, but exclusive full screen mode sounded so impressive, I thought I should embellish. Sorry about that.

Player Separation
We know that group members can become separated in some of our content, and we are looking at ways to make sure you stay together with your group members. We are currently testing some solutions.

So there you go. Just a peek into what’s coming up, and really, that’s only a small portion of what we are working on. We’ll be announcing more in the upcoming weeks, and I’m looking forward to seeing you at launch.

Paul

I got it from the same PTS statement the Kinkerbell posted above.

The bolded statement is not a universal truth. Many games perform better in borderless window mode. I do agree it needs to be an option that we can choose what we prefer.
