Safe storage in Alvor's house?

Post » Thu Mar 27, 2014 1:04 pm

Hi all - started on Skyrim and have finally made my way to Alvor's house. Are the containers safe for temporary (1 or 2 day) storage? I'm on Xbox btw.

If not, where if anywhere do I have safe storage? How long is it until I get a "place of my own" with totally safe storage? An attractive young lady Bosmer needs her privacy! :D

Thanks everyone!

This early in the game what options do I have for stashing stuff? Just started a couple of quests in Falkreath and just arrived in Riverwood and have a lot to unload. Don't want to sell it all yet before establishing myself here if I don't have to.

What level are you now and how much gold do you have?

I stashed some stuff in a barrel in Gerdur's house on my first playthrough, nothing disappeared (though I dunno how long I left it) but everything worth over about 60 septims was flagged as stolen when I took it out, so I couldn't sell it. I try not to hold on to too much at the start, if I can't disenchant it or use it right now, I sell it. There's so much stuff to loot/buy that I've only once or twice got rid of a couple of things that I sort of wished I hadn't later. My first character I hoarded terribly (and didn't really have a follower to carry it) until I got the 5k for Breezehome (which took me a couple of weeks game time because I couldn't carry much loot). Once I was able to stash the things I wanted to keep, I made back my 5k within about three or four days in-game because I had so much more carrying capacity.

Yeah I'm seeing that now!! LOL I just discovered I could grab a follower and so I'm using a mule to haul my junk around. I'll probably sell it when we return to Riverwood.

I would just save your gold (5000), get to level 7, receive a letter from a courier sayign that the Jarl of Falkreath wants to meet you, go visit him, do a favor or two for him then get permission to build a house in Falkreath.

If you decide to follow the main quest you will be allowed to purchase a house in Whiterun. Won't take long to get some coin for breezehome.

Cool! Thanks everyone! I cannot get over what a great and lively community the TES universe has, especially Oblivion which is 8 years old now! I expected to not find ANY real resources to get help if I needed it with that one, and I get replies about 5 minutes after I post there!!

Thanks again!
