Stacking DoTs?

Post » Thu Mar 27, 2014 9:27 pm

Hey, all:)

From the Siphoning Line for Nightblades are Strife and Cripple. Both apply dots to their target.

1.) Will these stack or will one overwrite the other? In other words, I hit Cripple which applies the first dot (8sec). As it is ticking I hit Strife and it applies the second dot (10 sec). Will Strife, the second, stop Cripple, the first, from its full duration? Or will they stack?

2.) Noob question - When I put points in Passives, are they always active, as long as an Active Ability is equipped on my bar?

Thks for any input:)

1) the would stack, only the same one would over ride.

2) Depends on the passive. Most only effect that line of skills. ie. When using dark magic restore 3% health. so you kind of have to have it slotted to get any benefit from any cast. vs. Restore magicka 5% faster. works all the time.

Thanks for confirmation. I only ever used Strife>Funnel Health during betas. Good to know about how it works with the other DoT in that line.

I do know is some issue with group stacking dots. ie you cannot all do same dot. those do over ride. But that may be a bit by design, as they do not want everyone using the same skills. Besides during a raid having 100 dots stacked on a boss is kind of dumb and most dont make sense. I am pretty sure if you get poisoned again with the same poison it does not kill you any faster.

you say there is no difference between being stung by 10 bees and being stung by 10,000 bees?

Are you sure that DoT's from other players won't stack?

I have a hard time believing that your spells won't work or get knocked off because someone else used one also. Its not like your getting more damage, its just spread out over time. More poison will act faster and harsher than a little. I would rather take an eye drop of poison over drinking a cup full.

Makes sense. We had a similar gameplay mechanic limiter put on a Scholar job ability in FFXI. The ability was exploited magnificently and had to be nerfed.

If you drink a whole cup of poison your body might reject it and you could survive the whole ordeal. Happened to Napoleon I when he tried to commit suicide while Emperor of Elba.

Completely off topic but just wanted to say — eye drop not always better.

All dots even of the same skill should stack IMO, if they're magica based you're limited in how many you can apply anyways. But I can understand putting a decent sized cap on the total number of dots on say a boss.

Via pvp if you're not aware enough to remove the dots on you, frankly you deserve to die.

@ the op.

I didn't test dot based skills in beta so I can't tell you exactly how they work.

But if they don't stack I would be disappointed. If the same dot based skill can't be applied twice from one player that's srsly broken.

Edit: found this thread at tamrielfoundry, Ddaverios is correct.

This makes me SAD!!!

DD builds > DoT builds in ESO, unless you plan to solo everything, or play in a coordinated group. I get why they had to do it this way, due to the way they've went about designing their UI (we would have no way of knowing how many of the same DoT were on us simultaneously, unless we had buff icons... but that's not a debate for this thread.)

Its really something that should have been taken care of long ago. Tank'ish or high hp dot builds are a blast to play. Gimping a dmg type or play style due to a UI design flaw is pretty fail.

Apparently HoTs are limited as well.

I've seen some videos where you can apply HoTs from the very same skill (spamming 1 skill over and over) to yourself, and the HoTs stack. HoTs may be capped or limited somehow, but not in exactly the same way as DoTs are restricted.

At 2:27, you can see him use Grand Healing. As he starts spamming it, the ticks get faster, indicating that multiple Grand Healing abilities are overlapping, with 2 or 3 of those HoTs ticking at once.
